Lima Senior gets first-ever lacrosse win

CINCINNATI — Cole Mericle and Deavan Scott had two goals each as the Lima Senior recorded the first boys lacrosse varsity in the program’s inaugural season with a 6-1 win Thursday against Winton Woods.

Ishmeal Curtis and Allen Madlock had one goal each, Ryan Moore made five saves and Deathony Walker had three saves also for the Spartans.


Shawnee 8, Bath 5

BATH TOWNSHIP — Logan Maxwell had two doubles and a single and Jake Hutchins had a double and a single for the visiting Indians in the Western Buckeye League contest. Jeremiah Bolon had a double and a single and Lex Boedicker and Will Clark each had two hits for the Wildcats.

Delphos Jefferson 10, Ada 0

ADA — Winning pitcher C Lucas allowed five hits and four walks while striking out five in five innings. Hunter Haehn had a double, two singles and an RBI, Darius Shurelds had two hits and two RBI and Conner Anspach had a double, a single and an RBI for Jefferson in a Northwest Conference encounter. Colten Shaffer tripled for Ada.

Perry 10, Cory-Rawson 1

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Winning pitcher Jon Sawyer (1-0) allowed a walk and three hits while striking out five in seven innings.

Dillan Maxwell had triple, single and two stolen bases, Luke Floyd had a double, single and three stolen bases and Aaron Rush had a pair of RBI for the host Commodores.

Delphos St. John’s 9,

New Knoxville 1

DELPHOS — Winning pitcher Matthew Miller allowed one run and four hits while striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings. Corey Koverman and Tony Sanders had multiple hits for DSJ.

Coldwater 2, Parkway 1

ROCKFORD — Austin Riethman had two hits and Nate Grunden had a hit and two RBI for the Cavaliers in the Midwest Athletic Conference game. Winning pitcher Cole Frilling allowed six hits and three walks while striking out four in seven innings. Nick Hawk had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers.

Miller City 14, Leipsic 1

LEIPSIC — Chase Kuhlman had a homer and a single, Drew Johnston homered, Cole Niese had a double and a single, and Jeremy DeMuth and Noah Otto each had two hits for Miller City in the Putnam County League matchup.

Paulding 11, Bluffton 1

PAULDING — Winning pitcher Hunter Kauser allowed no earned runs, six hits and no walks while striking out five. He also had two hits and three RBI. Teammate Cade McGarvey had a double, two singles and two RBI. Dakota Bricker had two hits and Kaden Reneker had a double for Bluffton in the NWC encounter.

Season extended

COLUMBUS — By a 7-2 vote, the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors approved a proposal from the baseball coaches association to extend the season one week, beginning with the 2019 season.

The number of regular-season games permitted (27) will not be affected, but the regular season will be one week longer. The 2019 state tournament will be June 6, 7 and 8 instead of May 30, 31 and June 1.

SPENCERVILLE — Bailey Swartz had a double, two singles and two stolen bases and Kendra Johnston had three hits and three RBI for the host Bearcats. Winning pitcher Julie Mulholland allowed one earned run, two hit and four walks while striking out 11 in seven innings.

North Baltimore 11,

Hardin Northern 3

NORTH BALTIMORE — Madison Robson had a double and a single, Quinn Stewart-Evans doubled and Cassidy Deckling had a hit and an RBI for Hardin Northern.

Crestview 8, Allen East 1

CONVOY — Winning pitcher Victoria Lichtensteiger allowed two hits and struck out 15 in seven innings. Caitlin O’Hagan and Olivia Skelton each had two hits, Avery McCoy had a double and four RBI and Codi Miller had two RBI for Crestview in the NWC matchup.

Paulding 3, Bluffton 1

PAULDING — Winning pitcher Audrey Manz allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings in the NWC encounter. Haylee Dominique had a double, a single and two RBI. Brinkley Garmatter had three hits and Katie Prater had two hits and an RBI for the visiting Pirates.

Bath 14, Shawnee 5

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Annika Hemenker had three hits, including a double, and Riley Iiames had two hits for Bath. Megan Spainhower had three hits for Shawnee in the Western Buckeye League game.

BLUFFTON — Singles players Howie Spencer and C.J. Vanderhorst and the doubles teams of Andrew Vogel and David Keller and Mason King and Evan Tennant won for matches for St. Marys. Bluffton’s Justin Haggard won his match.
