Roundup: Shawnee edges Celina in WBL baseball

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The host Indians held off Celina for an 11-10 Western Buckeye League baseball victory Friday night.

Jake Hutchins had a double, single and two RBI, Jared Thomas had two hits, Logan Maxwell tripled and had two RBI and Kale Ebling had two RBI for Shawnee, which held a 11-6 advantage heading into the final inning in its league opener.

LCC 10, Delphos Jefferson 2

LIMA — Matthew Heider had a pair of doubles and Brendon Stolly, Derek Jennings and Sam Santaguida each had one double for Lima Central Catholic.

Fort Jennings 4, Arlington 3

ARLINGTON — Aaron Sealts’ suicide squeeze scored Brad Eickholt with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth in a game moved due to high water at Fort Jennings Park. Zach Schulte tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a single that plated Derek Luersman.

Fort Jennings starting pitcher Brandon Wehri allowed two hits and one walk while striking out nine in 5 2/3 innings. Luersman and teammate Brad Eickholt each had two hits and three stolen bases. Sealts had two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases. Evan Hoersten had two hits and Zach Schulte had a hit and an RBI also for Fort Jennings.

St. Henry 9, Bluffton 1

ST. HENRY — Ryan Luttmer had three hits, an RBI and stolen base, Curtis Uhlenhake had two hits, an RBI and a stolen base and Tyler Schlarman had a double and single for the host Redskins.

Wapakoneta 2, St. Marys 0

WAPAKONETA — Winning pitcher Gage Schank went seven innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out 12. Teammate Don Goodes had a double and single. Ty Howell had a double and single for the visiting Roughriders.


Elida 6, Ottawa-Glandorf 3

GLANDORF — Abby Smith had three hits and three RBI, Kori Baker had a double, single and RBI and Addie Miller had a pair of hits for the visiting Bulldogs. Winning pitcher Baker had 10 strikeouts.

Katelyn Yoder had a double, a single and three RBI and Sydney Porinchok and Emma Ellerbrock each had two hits for O-G.

Arcadia 6, Allen East 1

HARROD — Sydney Miller doubled for Allen East.

LCC 11, Delphos Jefferson 1

LIMA — Abby Watkins got the win on the mound and Cecilia Riepenhoff doubled and had three RBI.

Bath 11, Kenton 1

BATH TOWNSHIP — Bath’s Kennedi Sullivan, Annika Heminger and Tara Cooper and Kenton’s Jenna Clum each homered.

Spencerville 18, Arlington 4

ARLINGTON — Winning pitcher Julie Muholland also tripled as did teammates Jenna Henline and Leaira Jones. Jenning Henline doubled for the visiting Bearcats.

Bluffton 4, Fostoria 1

BLUFFTON — Singles players Justin Haggard, Christian Groman and Drew Wilson and the doubles team of Eden Nygaard and Grant Klingler won for the host Pirates.

Lima Central Catholic 4,

Lima Senior 1

LIMA — Singles players Ben Brinkman, Mark Janowski and Matthew Cecala and the double team of Enrico Perissinotto and Brady Koenig won for LCC. The doubles team of Michael Bishop and Noah Phillips won for Lima Senior.

Shawnee 3, Celina 2

CELINA — Singles players Michael Rutter, Isaac Hanover and Jackson Schaaf won for Shawnee. The doubles teams of Garrett Forlow and Schaib Saleem and Brandon Schmidlapp and Justin Warnement won for Celina.

St. Marys 4, Wapakoneta 1

WAPAKONETA — Singles players Marcel Lansing and CJ Vanderhorst and the doubles teams of Andrew Vogel and David Keller and Matt Kawalec and Evan Tennant won for St. Marys. Wapak’s Jordan Moening won his singles match.

Ottawa-Glandorf 5, Elida 0

OTTAWA — Singles players Craig Recker, Kevin Recker and Carter Welch and the doubles teams of Zach Balbuagh and Drew Kuhlman and Ben Schaub and Colin Welch all won matches.

Area players, coach

in North-South games

Three area players and one area coach will participate in the boys North-South all-star games on April 20 at Olentangy Liberty High School.

Elida’s Daniel Unruh will play for the North team in the Division I and II game and Bulldogs coach Denny Thompson will be coaching in that game.

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Jay Kaufman and Pandora-Gilboa’s Drew Johnson will play for the North team in the Division III and IV game.

Troy Invitational

TROY — The Lima Senior girls finished third out of 16 teams Thursday. Troy finished first with 165.5 points followed by Beavercreek (109.5) and Lima Senior (91). Wapakoneta finished eighth with 31 points.

The Spartans’ Suerethia Henderson set meet records in winning the 200 (25.5 seconds) and 400 (57.3). She also won the 100 in 12.2. Henderson was on Lima Senior’s winning 1,600-meter relay team that also included Deji’Ona Shurelds Simpson, India Benton and Ka’Niyah Stevens that finished in 4:15.93.

The Wapak 3,200 relay team of Emma Kentner, Michaelia Fisher, Mackenzie Courter and Paige Schneider finished first in 10:31.93.

Shurelds Simpson also was second in the 400 (1:02.49). The Lima Senior 800 relay team of I’taya Harris, Shurelds Simpson, Benton and Stevens was third (1:53.52) as was the 400 relay team of Sakiyha Matthews, Harris, Diava Glenn and Stevens (53.75).

On the boys’ side, Wayne won the team championship (153 points) with Wapak 10th (32) and Lima Senior 14th (six). Wapak’s Riley Worthen was second in the 100 (11.44).
