SS/outfield/pitcher, Colton Shafer sr. catcher/outfield, Austin Amburgey jr. 3B/pitcher/catcher/DH, Jaylin Burkhart jr. 1B, Connor Frazier jr. pitcher/2B, Ethan Hall jr. outfield, Matt Middlebrook jr. pitcher/outfield, Kolten Spangler jr. outfield, Landon Blankenship soph. catcher/pitcher/3B, Phillip Coulson soph. 2B/SS/pitcher, Dylan East soph. outfield/pitcher, Tyson Moore soph. 2B, Bryce Paul soph. 3B/pitcher, Alex Sweigart soph. pitcher

Promising Newcomers: Zac Swaney fr. outfield/pitcher

Coach’s Outlook: This team has a solid core of players that’s being lead by Senior Captains Aaron Everhart and Colten Shafter. Austin Amburgey, Jaylin Burkhart, Ethan Hall, Landon Blankenship, and Dylan East are all looking to build off of last year and expand their impact on this season. The pitching staff will be lead by juniors Connor Frazier and Matt Middlebrook along with sophmores Alex Sweigart and Phillip Coulson. This is a deep and athletic group of baseball players. I’m looking forward to seeing the experience of upperclassmen competing with the hunger of younger guys to fill out this line up. I believe that this kind if internal competition will only make us better.

Division IV

2017 Record: 9-15 (2-6, NWC, tied for seventh)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached sectional final

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost to Ottawa-Glandorf in Sectional Final

Head Coach: Abram Escamilla (Second Season)

Returning Letterwinners: Reid Spencer sr. LF/pitcher, Ryan Snyder sr. 2B, Ben Lawrence sr.1B/DH, Dalton Clum jr. outfield/infield/pitcher, Devin Reed jr. outfield/pitcher, Christian Hendrick jr, catcher, Cole Fletcher soph. CF/pitcher, Logan McCluer soph. 3B

Promising Newcomers: Tyler Clum fr. SS, Bradden Crumrine fr. outfield/infield/pitcher, Jordan Motter fr. outfield/pitcher, Travis Wilson fr. catcher, Blake Hershberger outfield/infield

Coach’s Outlook: Young Team but a veteran team have 8 returning letterman returning coming back. Believe we can be very competitive just need to play fundamentally sound baseball. And also need to hit this year that was kind of our Achilles heel last year. Overall have a very versatile team with a bunch of young faces to add to the mix of returning players.

Division II

2017 Record: 13-10 (5-4 WBL, tied for fifth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reach sectional final

Head Coach: Brian Jesko (ninth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Isaiah Bolon, sr., infield/pitcher; Jeremiah Bolon, sr., catcher; Will Clark, sr., DH/1B; Chad Frey, sr., pitcher/outfield; Blake Goedde, sr., pitcher/1B.

Promising Newcomers: Luke Best, sr., infield; Hunter Iiams, sr., pitcher/outfield; Dylan Mohr, sr., utility; Devan Grigsby, jr., outfield; Cole Parlapiano, jr., infield; Lex Boedicker, fr., infield/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: This year’s team looks to reload after the graduation of eight contributing seniors last spring. Senior pitchers Chad Frey, Blake Goedde, Hunter Iiams, and Isaiah Bolon will be heavily relied on to throw quality innings this season. Fellow seniors Jeremiah and Will Clark return as the top two hitters from last spring. The leadership of our seniors will play a key role as this year’s team lacks much Varsity experience heading into the start of the season.

Division III

2017 Record: 7-14 (2-6 NWC, tied for seventh)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional semifinals)

Head Coach: Mason Roth (second season)

Returning Letterwinners: Dakota Bricker, sr., outfield/pitcher; Cole Fruchey, sr., infield/outfield/pitcher; Cayden Rayle, so., catcher/3B; Aaron Belcher, sr., 3B/2B/pitcher; Keden Reneker, sr., infield/outfield/pitcher; Brice Rayle, sr., infield/outfield/pitcher; Braeden Edwards, sr., infield/catcher.

Coach’s Outlook: The pirates will be looking to improve on their record from last season. They will count on their seniors to carry a good amount of the load. The pirtates roster will have 15 guys and our of the 15, 8 will be seniors. Last season, the pirates struggled with scoring runs and look to improve that aspect of the game for this spring.

Division II

2017 Record: 18-7 (6-3 WBL, fourth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached district semifinals

Head coach: Andy Mikesell (fifth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Parker Maurer, jr., outfield; Reid Harter, jr., pitcher/1B; Bransen Miller, jr., outfield/infield/pitcher; Kyle Stein, jr., catcher.

Promising Newcomers: Gabe Perry, jr., 3B/pitcher/1B; Grant Wagner, jr., outfield/pitcher; Austin Cotterman, fr., pitcher/infield.

Coach’s Outlook: Though lacking experience, we have a very talented group of baseball players. The kids understand that a lot of people don’t expect much from us this year but they really do expect a lot out of each other. I feel as though we will definitely surprise some teams and male every game a battle. Not having any seniors is somewhat of a bonus as we do have a few guys with multiple years of varsity experience and it allows this large group of juniors to move up together. Considering that they have been playing together for years, I think that chemistry gives us a big advantage in being comfortable and developing as a group. They have a lot of fun together and have been successful at every level they have played at. Add a few underclassmen with a ton of potential, and we feel pretty good about where we are.

2017 Record: 19-8 (7-2 MAC, first)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached district final

Head Coach: Brian Harlamert (21st season)

Returning Letterwinners: Nathan Grunden, sr., 3B; Sam Broering, sr., shortstop; Jacob Wenning, jr., 2B/pitcher; Austin Riethman, jr., 1B/outfield; Jacob Hartings, sr., catcher; Joey Welsch, sr., catcher; Brad Giere, sr., outfield/pitcher; Jack Muhlenkamp, sr., outfield.

Coach’s Outlook: The coaching staff is excited about the 2018 season. There is experience and depth at many positions, and the players are willing to put in the work. The goal is to come together as a team and develop a team toughness.

Columbus Grove

2017 Record: 10-8 (3-4 NWC, sixth; 4-3 PCL, fourth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional semifinal)

Head coach: Eric Naughton (first year)

Returning Letterwinners: Nick Woods, jr., infield/pitcher; Alex Schneider, so., shortstop/pitcher; Brady Hauenstein, jr., catcher/pitcher.

Promising Newcomers: Brady Rudasill, Owen Macke, Tayt Birnesser, Blaine Hoffman.

Coach’s Outlook: With many seniors graduating, the turnover has begun. The talented junior and sophomore class will now fill out the 2018 spring roster. Pitching is a big strength for the upcoming season as three of the starting pitchers (Woods, Haustein, and Schneider) will all return to starting pitching soles. Overallm the roster has 10 pitchers out of the 14 players on the roster. This years team is full of versatile, multi-sport athletes that are capable of playing several positions on the baseball field. We look for athleticism on the base paths and on defensive to be a big part of the 2018 season. Weaknesses the team could come up against this season would be the large makeup of underclassmen on the team and the overall lack of experience on the varsity level. Although these boys have been winning at their level, 9 seniors departed from 2017 so finding as identity is still in the air. The offense is going to have to be productive and find ways to score to backup the strong forecasted pitching and defense. At 4-4 last season and in a three way tie, the team looks to separate itself in the PCL and vie for a conference championship this season. In the NWC with another 4-4 finish the team looks to build off of that and improve to win the NWC in 2018. Junior Nick Woods is coming off a 2nd team all conference season in the NWC and has been the ace since his freshman year. We look to go deep in the playoffs with Nicks experience and the experience of 2 other starting pitchers Hauenstein and Schneider who have pitched in both leagues since their freshman year as well.

Division IV

2017 Record: 7-17 (1-6 PCL, tied for sixth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached sectional final

Head Coach: Dennis Potts

Returning Letterwinners: Dillon Coleman, sr., pitcher/catcher/2B; Chris Potts, sr., pitcher/1B; Payton Weller, sr., pitcher/3B; Jarrett Keck, jr., pitcher/2B; Konnor Okuley, jr., outfield; Nick States, jr., pitcher/1B; Trevor Brecht, so., catcher; Brady Dockery, so., pitcher, shortstop, 2B; Gannon Prowant, so., catcher.

Promising Newcomers: Caleb Olds, sr., catcher; Mitchell Coleman, fr., pitcher/shortstop/2B; Blake Elkins, fr., catcher.

Coach’s Outlook: I think that we should be competitive. We need to work on the mental aspect of the game and not lose concentration. We need to avoid giving away the big inning or turning 1 error into multiple errors. If we can do this and reduce our on base balls, then I think that we may find ourselves in a lot of games. We need to keep games close and give ourselves a chance at the end.

Division IV

2017 Record 2-17 (1-10 BVC, 12th)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional semifinals)

Head Coach: Brock Bell (second season)

Returning Letterwinners: Austin Price, sr., pitcher/catcher/shortstop; Ethan Cawley, sr., pitcher/1B/2B; Logan Stuckey, jr., pitcher/2B/shortstop; Luke Wolford, jr., pitcher/1B/left field; Kyle Schultz, jr., pitcher/3B/shortstop, catcher; Louie Cira, so., catcher/3B; Carson Houck, so., left field.

Promising Newcomers: Eric Ritter, sr., center field; Aston Chester, sr., right field.

Coach’s Comments: I feel that we could have a very solid season this year. If the kids play to their full potential we could make some waves in the BVC. We have a lot of winnable games on our schedule so the kids just need to go out and perform like I know they can. If we limit mistakes and use our speed to score runs I feel we can win a lot more games then we did last year.

Division IV

2017 Record: 15-5 (8-0 NWC, first)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached sectional final

Head Coach: Jim Wharton (35th season)

Returning Letterwinners: Caden Hurless, sr., shortstop/pitcher; Brant Richardson, jr., pitcher; Dylan Hicks, sr., 3B/pitcher; Derek Stout, sr., pitcher; Brett Schumm, sr., catcher.

Promising Newcomers: Charles Stefanek, sr., outfield/2B/shortstop; Kole Small, jr., pitcher/outfield; Riley Saylor, jr., pitcher/outfield/2B; Korbin Hartman, jr., catcher/outfield; Kaden Short, so., shortstop/2B/pitcher; Michael Joseph, so., pitcher/outfield/shortstop; Jace Vining, so., outfield/pitcher; Griffin Painter, jr., shortstop/2B/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: Losing 9 seniors from last season has us needing to fill some holes. Hopefully we can continue to feed off our trip to the state tournament heading into 2018. With 5 quality letterwinners returning gives us a nice nucleus to build around. Our pitching staff will need to mature quickly, keeping us in games while our younger players develop at this level.

Delphos Jefferson

Division IV

2017 Record: 14-13 (6-2 NWC, second)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional final)

Head Coach: Doug Geary (eighth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Brenen Auer, sr., catcher/pitcher/shortstop; Tyler Shrider, sr., pitcher/DH; Caleb Lucas, sr., pitcher/DH; Hunter Haehn, jr., infield; Darnell Simpson, jr., outfield; Darius Shurelds, jr., infield; Conner Anspach, jr., catcher/1B; Braxton Scalf, so., outfield/pitcher; Logan Herron, so., pitcher/shortstop.

Promising Newcomers: Josh Wiseman, fr., outfield/1B/pitcher; Logan Hubert, so., 1B/3B; Eli Lucas, jr., 3B/1B; Matt Schroeder, jr., infield; Tyler Bratton, sr., infield/pitcher; Diego Gonzalez, sr., outfield.

Coach’s Outlook: This year’s team has a nice mixture of experience and youth. Our success comes down to executing and making routine plays. If we can take care of those things, we can compete night in and night out. We expect Tyler Shrider to be our ace. He had some big wins last year and we’re going to be turning to him in big games this year. Offensively, we have a lot to replace by losing our top 3 hitters. It’s going to take a collective effort to replace two .400 hitters. From what I’ve seen so far, I like the direction as a whole we are making with the stick.

Delphos St. John’s

2017 Record: 16-11 (6-3 MAC, tied for second)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached district semifinals

Head Coach: Jerry Jackson (sixth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Troy Elwer, sr., outfield/3B/pitcher; Collin Will, sr., infield/pitcher; Devin Cairo, sr., 1B/outfield/pitcher; Matthew Miller, sr., 1B/outfield/pitcher; Corey Koverman, sr., pitcher; Lincoln Mueller, so., 1B/pitcher; Chandler Skym, jr., 3B/pitcher; Adam Gerker, jr., 2B/outfield/pitcher; Tony Sanders, jr., outfield; Jeff Odenweller, sr., DH; Luke Reindel, jr., 1B/pitcher.

Promising Newcomers: James Garrett III, sr., outfield/catcher;; Dominic Metzger, jr., catcher/outfield/3B; Carter Teman, jr., infield/outfield/catcher; Trent Lindeman, fr., infield/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: As a team we are hoping toi build off last year’s success. Our record of 16-11 reflects veteran players with tons of Varsity experience. We graduated 6 seniors off last years squad. All 6 players were 3 and 4 year starters. We have a team that is very capable of competing for a MAC title. I look for Versailles and Fort Recovery to contend for the MAC title also. You can’t forget about St. Henry, Minster, and Coldwater could be in the mix because of their strong pitching.

Division II

2017 Record: 7-20 (0-9 WBL, 10th)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional semifinals)

Head Coach: Todd Grapner (seventh year)

Returning Letterwinners: Josh Howard, sr., outfield/pitcher; Justin Moore, sr., 1B/pitcher; Noah Adcock, jr., shortstop/potcher, TJ Whipple, jr., 3B/pitcher; Luke Burger, so., outfield/pitcher; Jordan Davis, so., catcher/pitcher.

Promising Newcomers: Max Parker, jr., outfield; Matt Fish, jr., catcher/outfield; Drew Brockert, jr., outfield, infield; Drew Biglow, infield/pitcher; Nevin Sackinger, jr., outfield; Brayden Lybarger, fr., infield/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: We are still fairly young with only 2 returning starters but we do return 6 starters and 6 pitchers from last season. We expect our pitching and defense to carry us through the early parts of the schedule and hope that we continue to improve offensively as the season progresses. The WBL will be very strong as always as we feel that we can be competitive if we pitch and play defense like we are capable.

Fort Jennings

2017 Record: 7-15 (1-6 PCL, tied for sixth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost in sectional final

Head Coach: Matt Dube (second year)

Returning Letterwinners: Brandon Wehri, sr.; Aaron Sealts, sr.; Derek Luersman, jr.; Aaron Kloeppel, jr.; Nolan Grote, jr.; Simon Smith, jr.; Kyle Norbeck, jr.

Coach’s Outlook: Last season was a good learning experience for the guys. They had to adjust to a new coaching staff ans philosophy. Having a year under their belts will be very important. We graduated a lot of experience, but the young players were able to get in many game last year. That experience for them will be valuable for us. We expect to be a team that hits the ball well. If our pitching is strong, we should be a tough team. Our expectation is to continue to improve and to be competitive in the PCL.

Hardin Northern

Head Coach: Dennis Pees (fourth year)

2017 Record: 7-12 (6-7 NWCC, fifth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional semifinal)

Division IV

2017 Record: 12-11 (6-1 PCL, tied for first)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached district final

Head Coach: Joe Recker (fifth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Kevin Hamburg, sr., infield/pitcher.outfield; Josh Klausing, sr., infield/pitcher; Owen Recker, jr., pitcher/1B; Trevor Lambert, jr., catcher/DH; Ethan Schmenk, jr., DH/outfield/infield/pitcher; Josh Recker, so., infield/pitcher; Clay Bellmann, so., outfield/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: Kalida will be very young and inexperienced in 2018. Our kids have put more off-season work as a group than any previous years. Our hope is that the extra work transitions into on-field success this season. Kalida should be strong with a solid pitching staff and defense, but will need to find a way to be better offensively this year. The Putnam County League will be the most competitive it has been in a long time. Each team has a legitimate ace pitcher and each game will be a battle.

Division II

2017 Record: 15-7 (7-2 WBL, second)

2017 Postseason Finish: lost in district semi-finals

Head Coach: Matt Dudek (fourth season)

Promising Newcomers: Garrett Thomas, so., outfield/pitcher; Hunter LaRue, so., 2B/shortstop; Kyle Orains, jr., 3B/2B; Seth Creamer, fr., shortstop/2B/outfield; Julius Tapia, so., catcher.

Coach’s Outlook: We had a great season last year winning the first sectional title in 19 years. We graduated 6 seniors from that class, but we have a lot of class coming back. There are a lot of X-factors with this group, but they come to practice and work hard every day.

Division IV

2017 Record: 23-6 (6-1 PCL, tied for first; 8-3 BVC, tied for third)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached regional final

Coach’s Outlook: We have to replace five seniors and have a couple injuries to deal with to start the season. We hope to be competitive in both leagues.

Lima Central Catholic

Division IV

2017 Record: 16-9

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached district semifinals

Head Coach: John Schnieders (sixteenth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Matthew Heider, sr., utility; Derek Jennings, sr., pitcher/1B; Sam Santaguida, sr., catcher; Dru Smith, sr., pitcher/1B; Brendan Stolly, sr., pitcher/outfield/infield; Brayden O’Dell, jr., pitcher/outfield.

Promising Newcomers: Shaun Thomas, fr., pitcher/infield; Dominic Riepenhoff, jr., pitcher/infield; Derek Pignataro, jr., pitcher/utility; Michael Briggs, jr., pitcher/infield; Rahsy Moore, fr., outfield/infield.

Coach’s Outlook: We bring back some experience on the mound and behind the plate, but we are young on the infield. Playing defense will be the key to our success, and we hope to peak at tournament time.

Lima Senior

Division I

2017 Record: 4-21 (1-12 TRAC, eighth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached sectional final

Head Coach: Casey Reed (first season)

Returning Letterwinners: Bryce Binkley jr. 3B/pitcher/SS, James Gaines jr. outfield/pitcher, Caleb Dugan soph. SS/pitcher, Ethan Jordan soph. catcher/utility, Mitchell Nuckles sr. 1B/3B

Promising Newcomers: Adrian Bowsher soph. infield/pitcher, Hunter Smith soph. utility/pitcher, Tryin Mathis sr. 1B/pitcher, Taylen Ingram sr. 2B/pitcher, D’Ontre Cowan fr. outfield/pitcher, Michael Snow fr. outfield, Jawan Anderson soph. outfield

Coach’s Outlook: The Lima Senior Baseball Team will have a much younger look this year as we graduated 8 seniors last year. The team will be made up of a majority of underclassmen with a couple seniors sprinkled in. We expect to be very competitive and begin the process of turning program around. We have a very good core of young players who have taken it upon themselves to just that. With the youth of the team we expect some growing pains along the way but have a good outlook for the season and expect to increase our win total from last year.

Division IV

2017 Record: 11-12 (4-3 NWC, fifth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional semifinals)

Head Coach: Eric Fishpaw (fourth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Chayten Overholt sr, SS/pitcher, Ethan Parsons sr. pitcher/1B, Jaden Youtsey jr, pitcher/3B/SS, Reece Farmer jr. catcher, Ethan Kemler jr. pitcher/1B, Braxton Fox jr. 2B, Brayden Evans jr. CF, Thad Wakler jr. pitcher/outfield, Sam Myers jr. outfield/catcher, Gavin Carter soph. pitcher/3B/SS

Promising Newcomers: Collin Overholt fr. catcher/pitcher/2B/outfield, Creed Jesse fr. pitcher/3B/SS

Coach’s Outlook: Lincolnview returns 10 varsity letterwinners and all 9 starters from the 2017 season. The entire pitching staff is back in 2018 as well for the Lancers. We start our season with five straight road games including two tough games against Fort Recovery and Van Wert. The Lancers hope to be in the mix for a Northwest Conference Championship come this may. The guys have had an incredible offseason getting stronger and getting the arms in shape. Very excited for this Spring baseball season.

Marion Local

Division IV

2017 Record: 12-16 (3-6 MAC, tied for eighth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional semfinal)

Head Coach: Paul Utendorf (first season)

Returning Letterwinners: John Schmitz, sr., pitcher/3B; Derek Ruhenkamp, sr., pitcher/outfield; Ian Kramer, sr., pitcher/shortstop; Tim Knapschaefer, jr., pitcher; Trent Bohman, sr., 2B; Nolan Habodasz, jr., 3B/outfield; Kendall Bruns, jr., pitcher/outfield; Darrin Hays, jr., catcher.

Promising Newcomers: Adam Franck, sr., pitcher/1B; Justin Albers, sr., outfield; Dylan Homan, sr., outfield; Matt Moeller, jr., outfield; Aaron Brunswick, jr., 3B/outfield.

Coach’s Outlook: The 2018 baseball season is looking very promising for the Marion Local Flyers. We have a great core of seniors that are turning into a great group of leaders. Our pitching staff and defense should keep us in most baseball games. Year in year out the MAC is one of the toughest conferences across the state. I think the team is hoping to finish in the top half of the conference this year.

Miller City

Division IV

2017 Record: 17-5 (6-1 PCL, tied for first)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached district semifinals

Head Coach: Dusty Pester

Returning Letterwinners: Mark Kuhlman, sr.; Cole Niese, jr.

Promising Newcomers: Noah Otto, sr., pitcher/shortstop; Drew Johnson, sr., pitcher/outfield; Tyler Schroeder, sr., 1B; Jeremy Demuth, sr., 3B; Chase Kuhlman, jr., outfield/pitcher; Eli Ellerbrock, so., 2B/pitcher; Jacob Koenig, so., utility.

Coach’s Outlook: The 2018 version of Miller City Baseball has a lot of unknowns right now. We had a successful summer and some of our guys really stepped up. We will need to be outstanding defensively if we want to have a successful year. We will be okay on the mound but throwing strikes will be key as we do not have that guy that can strike out 12 guys in a game.

Division IV

2017 Record: 25-7 (6-3 MAC, tied for second)

2017 Postseason Finish: Won state championship

Head Coach: Mike Wiss (24th season)

Returning Letterwinners: Jared Huelsman, sr., outfield/pitcher; Isaac Schmiesing, sr., infield; Alex Lehmkuhl, sr., infield/pitcher; Adam Knapke, sr., infield/pitcher; Austin Shinaberry, sr., catcher/DH; Jack Heitbrink, jr., 1B/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: Getting quality starts on the mound will be very important with some new young arms throwing for us. Getting our bats started early in the season and allowing us to play with the lead is so very important in today’s game. Minster now has 45 players in the program. Gotta find the right mix. The difference between “interested” and “committed” will become important as we go forward.

New Bremen

2017 Record: 14-13 (3-6 MAC, eighth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached sectional final

Head Coach: Chad Wells (sixth season)

Returning Letterwinners: Luke Vonderhaar, sr., 3B/catcher; Caleb Alig, outfield; Charlie Sailer, sr., 2B; Koby Paul; Wyatt Puthoff, sr., 1B/DH; Ryan Bertke, jr., 1B/RHP; Grant Selby, jr., shortstop; Justin Tenkman, jr., RHP/2B; Spencer Alig, so., LHP; Aaron Vonderhaar, so., 1B/3B/DH.

Promising Newcomers: Ben Kuck, jr., RHP/outfield; Jarod Keller, jr., outfield; Nick Wells, jr., 1B/outfield/LHP; Patrick Wells, jr., catcher/1B/RHP; Ryland Archey, jr., catcher/outfield.

Coach’s Outlook: We are looking to take the next step in the process of moving this club forward. We return a lot of depth from last year’s team and also add some new faces to the mix.

New Knoxville

Division: IV

2017 Record: 7-12-1 (0-9 MAC, 10th)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost to St Henry in sectionals

Head Coach: John Sailer

Returning Letterwinners: Nathan Tinnerman sr. 1B, Nathan Merges sr. pitcher, Jonah Langeman sr catcher/infield, Jack Bartholomew sr. CF, Ben Lammers sr. LF, Jared Osborne jr. RF

Promising Newcomers: Austin Albers sr. 2B, Dalton Meeks soph. SS/pitcher, Jakob Rollins 3B/pitcher

Coach’s Outlook: We enter season with quite a few returning lettermen. We are looking to continue to improve the program in the win column. The last two years we’ve gone 0-18 in the MAC, but last year we beat all but one Shelby County League team. That shows how tough it is to compete in MAC. Our general downfall is our pitching. We don’t have the flame throwers other teams have so we need to pitch to contact and be fundamentally sound in the field. This year we have Nathan Merges as the ace of our staff. He was able to pitch last summer with the Lima Express and gathered some really good experience from that. We will go as far as him takes us. Nathan Tinnerman was 1st team All MAC in basketball and 2nd team last year as a junior. He will hit cleanup for us and look to drive home the runs we need.

Jonah Lageman will take over at catcher for Nick Topp who was all-everything for us last year. Lageman has years of experience at the varsity level in soccer, basketball, and track, so we’ll look to his leadership this year as well.

Our outfield should be our strong point. We have seniors Ben Lammers and Jack Bartholomew in left and center fields, and junior Jared Osborne in right. They usually only play the outfield, so they have gotten pretty good at sealing things out there. Last year we in a lot of MAC games but couldn’t finish things off. This year we’re hoping to break through and win a couple of those tight games. At some point our varsity experience from guys who have been playing since they were freshmen and sophomores needs to pay off.

Division III

2017 Record: 19-8 (5-4 WBL, tied for fifth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached regional semifinals

Head Coach: Nick Miller (12th season)

Returning Letterwinners: Austin Horstman sr, catcher/pitcher/infield, Chase Schrieber sr pitcher/infield, Nathan Arrington sr. 1B/pitcher, Grant Fuerst sr. pitcher/outfield. Micheal Bowers sr. infield/pitcher, Evan Balash sr. outfield/pitcher, Owen Heigle jr. infield, Brandon Fortman jr. infield, Ethan White jr. pitcher/infield/outfield, Logan Miller soph. catcher/outfielder

Promising Newcomers: Ethan Alt soph. pitcher/infielder/fielder, Grant Hovest soph. outfielder/pitcher, Trey Neinberg soph. pitcher/outfielder/infielder

Coach’s Outlook: We are battling some early injuries and are missing some key players from the basketball team that once again is making a deep tournament run. Hopefully we will play better baseball as the season goes on and we will be playing our best baseball at tournament time.

2017 Record: 4-12 (3-4 PCL, fifth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost in sectional final

Head Coach: Ty Wannemacher (fourth year)

Returning Letterwinners: Nick Moorman, sr., infield/pitcher; Zane Martin, sr., infield/pitcher; Troy Warnecke, sr., outfield/pitcher; Clayton Schnipke, sr., infield/pitcher. Keagan Leis, sr., infield/outfield; Logan Kemper, sr., infield/outfield; Andy Schimmoeller, sr., outfield/infield/pitcher/catcher; Dylan Kemper, jr., infield/pitcher; Jaden Schnipke, jr., outfield/infield.

Promising Newcomers: Jack Langhals, fr., catcher/infield; Josh Thorbahn, fr., infield/pitcher; Cooper Hanneman, fr., outfield/pitcher; Trae Schlagbaum, fr., outfield/pitcher/infield; Carson Miller, fr., infield; Brice Schroeder, fr., infield/outfield/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: With all but one of our team coming back from last year, mixed with great newcomers, we should have a fairly decent year this year. We only won 4 game last year but ended the year on a hot streak winning 4 of our last 6 games and giving Kalida a run for their money in the tournament, getting beat 3-2. Hopefully we can come together and all our hard work pays off. Progress is what we look for every day in practice, to help each other get better. Our goal every year is to get better as the year progresses.

Division IV

2017 Record: 6-20 (1-6 PCL, tied for sixth; 2-9 BVC, tied for 10th)

2017 Postseason Finish: lost in sectional final

Head Coach: Greg Liedtke (second season)

Returning Letterwinners: Ryan Lee, sr., pitcher/infield; Chase Huffman, sr., pitcher/3B/shortstop; Adam Schwab, sr., catcher/infield; Josh Shartell, sr., catcher/1B/pitcher; Austin Decker, sr., pitcher/outfield/1B; Carter Hofziger, sr., outfield/pitcher.

Promising Newcomers: Isaac Stall, so., catcher/pitcher/outfield; Brennen Morman, jr., 2B/shortstop/pitcher; Alex Ricker, so., 3B/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: We had a very good offseason and will look to build upon the progress we made last season. We will have some inexperience at multiple positions due to losing 6 starters last year, but the players have been working hard all season. With the leadership we have, we are hoping to continue the success from the other boy’s programs this year.

2017 Record: 11-12 (4-5 MAC, seventh)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached district final

Head Coach: Clouse (5 total years)

Returning Letterwinners: Clayton Agler, Tristen McKee, Zach Albright, Noah Stephanson, Jared Gibson, Jack Wehe, Breydan Bruns, Nick Hawk.

Promising Newcomers: Nick Riley, Noah Riley, Corey Walls, Coleton Kraner, Seth Stuckey, Mason Baxter.

Division III

2017 Record: 10-9 (5-3 NWC, tied for third)

2017 Postseason Finish: Lost opener (sectional final)

Head Coach: Travis McGarvey (third season)

Returning Letterwinners: Cade McGarvey, sr., 3B/2B; Marcus Miller, sr., 1B; Jaret Miller, jr., shortstop; Westen Phlipot, jr., pitcher/outfield; Jordan McGough, jr., pitcher/outfield; Carson Shull, jr., infield/outfield; Cole Heller, jr., DH/outfield; Evan Edwards, so., outfield/catcher.

Promising Newcomers: Kolson Egnor, so., pitcher/infield; Hunter Kauser, fr., catcher/outfield; Blake McGarvey, fr., infield/outfield; Brock Schooley, jr., outfield/DH; Matthew Schroder, so., pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: Going into this season, I feel we have some real uncertainty in our lineup. Our pitchers have little varsity experience and we have a group of inexperienced underclassmen looking to fill holes left from graduation. Early in the season, we will be experimenting with different lineups trying to find some consistency. Our defense will hopefully keep us in games but our success will depend on the progression of our pitchers and offense.

Division IV

2017 Record: 13-8 (8-6 NWCC, fourth)

2017 Postseason Finish: Reached sectional final

Head coach: Mark Hoersten (seventh season)

Returning Letterwinners: Luke Floyd, sr., shortstop/outfield/pitcher; Dillan Maxwell, sr., catcher/outfield; Jon Sawyer, sr., pitcher/infield; Austin Money, sr., pitcher/infiled; Aaron Rush, sr., outfield; Kevin Miller, jr., pitcher/infield; Louis Hoersten, jr., pitcher/outfield/infield; Bradley Walker, jr., 2B; Logan Liles, jr., 1B/pitcher; Cole Boroff, jr., pitcher/outfield; Keaton Miller, so., pitcher/infield/catcher.

Promising Newcomers: Jaren Law, sr., outfield; Cameron Dalton, so., outfield.

Coach’s Outlook: With nine starters returning, eleven letterwinners, and five players that have started since they were freshmen, we are looking forward to a solid year. It’s going to come down to our pitching and their development over the past year. We have good depth in the pitching rotation but quality will be a question. We have the best team speed we have had in my seven years and will look to be aggressive running the bases. So, if the pitching steps up along with strong leadership, we should have a successful season.

Division II

Promising Newcomers: Trey Fisher, catcher; Carter Ballweg, shortstop; Ty Howell, outfield/pitcher; Grant Harris, infield; Kurt Bubp, 3B/pitcher; Clay Quellhorst, 3B/pitcher.

Coach’s Outlook: We return 8 lettermen from the 2017 season. We need to take the next big step in all three phases now with players that have varsity experience. We are going to need younger guys to step in and perform with only 3 seniors if we’re going to be successful. Our schedule should prepare us well.
