Staff reports

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Jerry Cooper will be returning to the area where he had his greatest success as a football coach after being approved as the next head football coach at Shawnee High School on Tuesday.

Most recently, Cooper has been the head football coach at Seymour (Tenn.) High School, where he resigned last fall after going 2-8, 7-4, 5-5 and 0-10 in four seasons. Before that he was 87-21 in nine seasons at Lima Central Catholic and 58-9 in five seasons at Columbus Grove, including a Division VI state championship in 2003.

He also has coached at Bath, Hicksville, Waynesfield-Goshen and Lucas. LCC averaged three wins a season in the five years before he took over and then went to the playoffs eight times in his nine seasons there.

Cooper replaces Frank Crea. Shawnee finished 4-6 in his only season as its head coach.
