Roundup: Elida’s Wheeler surpasses 1,000 career points in girls basketball win against Fort Jennings

ELIDA — Shyah Wheeler smashed through the varsity career 1,000-point barrier, scoring 32, in leading the host Bulldogs to a 67-36 girls high school basketball victory Tuesday night against Fort Jennings.

Wheeler, who entered the game needed six points to reach 1,000, also had nine rebounds as Elida went from a 25-23 halftime advantage to leading 47-28 at the end of the third quarter.

Hayleigh Bacome had 19 points and Amire Freeman and Amiah Jones each scored eight also for the Bulldogs. Kristen Luersman had 19 points and Lillian Wisner scored seven for Fort Jennings.

State rankings

COLUMBUS — Minster is the top-ranked Division IV team in the Associated Press polls. New Bremen is fourth and Ottoville is sixth. Jackson Center and Fort Recovery also received 12 or more points.

Ottawa-Glandorf is ranked third in Division III.

Delphos Jefferson 43,

Miller City 22

DELPHOS — Jefferson’s 11-3 first-quarter lead grew to 20-7 by halftime. Devyn Carder and Macy Wallace each had 10 points for Jefferson (10-3). Adrienne Kuhlman and Natalie Koenig each had five points for Miller City (5-9).

Lincolnview 40, Kalida 39

MIDDLE POINT — Lincolnview’s Olivia Gorman had 17 points and Taylor Lucke had 17 points and Sarah Klausing scored 12 for Kalida.

Coldwater 63,

Lima Central Catholic 29

LIMA — Maura Hoying had 15 points, seven assists and four steals, Kourtney Diller had 14 points and six r3ebounds and Lauren Gillians had 13 points for the visiting Cavaliers. LCC individual stats were not reported by deadline.

Russia 46, St. Marys 35

ST. MARYS — Syd Cisco had 15 points and Lauren Cisco scored 10 for the host Roughriders, who were outscored 11-4 in the fourth period.

Cory-Rawson 41,

Hardin Northern 18

RAWSON — Ayanna Vekaryasz had 16 points and Samantha Roth scored eight for Cory-Rawson. Maddie Grappy had eight points and Quinn Stewart-Evans scored six for Hardin Northern.

Liberty-Benton 63,

Wapakoneta 42

FINDLAY — Lexi Jacobs and Sarah Pothast each had 14 points for Wapak

Boys basketball

Minster 80, Coldwater 48

MINSTER — Isaac Schmiesing had 34 points and Mike Ketner and Alex Lehmkuhl each scored 10 for Minster. Marcus Bruns had 10 points and Ben Wenning scored nine for Coldwater.
