LIMA — Toledo St. Francis blocked a Lima Senior shot in the final seconds to hold on for a 55-54 win over the Spartans in boys basketball on Tuesday night at Lima Senior.
St. Francis built an 11-point lead, 53-42, with 6 ½ minutes left in the game on the strength of a 19-4 run that began late in the third quarter and carried over into the fourth quarter after Lima Senior had taken a 38-34 lead.
Lima Senior caught up twice in the fourth quarter but never was able to take the lead again after leading for almost all of the first 2 ½ quarters. The Spartans tied the game at 53-53 on a 3-pointer by Greg Johnson and tied it again at 54-54 when Bryan Miller hit one shot of a one-and-one.
But St. Francis got the deciding point on a free throw by Jackie Harris with 1:16 left in the game.
Jakiel Wells scored 24 points and Harris had 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead St. Francis (3-1, 2-0 TRAC). Miller scored 24 points and Johnson had 13 points for Lima Senior (3-1, 1-1 TRAC).
Lima Senior was up by four points, 30-26, at halftime but led for all but the opening seconds of the game in the first 16 minutes.
The Spartans led 16-13 after one quarter and stretched their lead to as many as six points late in the second quarter.
Miller got Lima Senior off to a fast start with 12 points in the first quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers. Miller had 10 of the first 12 points for the Spartans.
Johnson provided some offense off the bench in the second quarter with eight points, including a 3-pointer.
Lima Senior shot 53 percent on field goals in the first half (10 of 21). St. Francis shot 38 percent (12 of 32).
