DELPHOS — Spencerville won the Northwest Conference boys golf tournament title Wednesday at the par 71 Delphos Country Club . The first-place finish also clinched the overall conference championship for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats had a team total 341 followed by Lincolnview (353), Paulding (362), Bluffton (373), Allen East (375), Columbus Grove (383), Crestview (384), Delphos Jefferson (416) and Ada (469).
Bluffton’s Aaron Belcher was the tournament medalist with a 73. Spencerville’s Ethan Harmon (82) and Gavin Harmon (83) finished second and third respectively.
Spencerville’s Drake Mertz (85), Lincolnview’s Reece Farmer (86), Allen East’s Grant Whitley (86) and Nick Phillips (87), Lincolnview’s Brayden Evans (87), Paulding’s Cade McGarvey (88), Crestview’s Caden Hurless (88) and Delphos Jefferson’s Logan Gallmeier (88) also finished in the top 10 individually. Collin Davis shot a 90 to contribute to Spencerville’s winning team score. Ada’s Brevin Sizemore (109) and Columbus Grove’s Jacob Oglesbee (90) had the low rounds for their respective schools.
Spencerville last won the tournament title in 2004 and the conference crown in 2005.
“It’s nice to live up to expectations,” Spencerville coach Mike Harmon said. “Our third (Mertz) and fourth (Davis) guys really came through for us today. This should give us a lot more confidence (heading into the postseason).
Spencerville had a total of 18 points for winning the regular season and tournament championships followed by Paulding (14.5), Lincolnview (14), Bluffton (13.5), Allen East (8.5), Crestview (8), Columbus Grove (6), Delphos Jefferson (5.5) and Ada (2).
All-conference honors were handed out following the tournament.
Harmon was named the coach of the year. Belcher received golfer of the year honors by virtue of points earned during each regular season match. He was joined on the league first team with the Harmons, Whitley, Jacob Oglesbee (CG), Logan Gallmeier, (Jefferson) and McGarvey.
Receiving second team honors were Ryan Moody (Lincolnview), Farmer (LV), Cole Heller (Paulding), Mertz, Phillips and Zach Roberts (CG)
Earning honorable mention status were Hurless (CV), Fletcher Cook (Paulding), Braxton Scalf (Jefferson), Colton Lautzenheiser (Crestview), Cole Fruchey (Bluffton), Evans, Braeden Edwards (Bluffton), Owen Macke (CG), Kols0n Egnor (Paulding), Jaden Youtsey (Lincolnview), Brett Schumm (Crestview) and Alex Gallman (Spencerville).
WAYNESFIELD — Lehman Catholic won the tournament at par 72 Prairie View and overall Northwest Central Conference championship.
The Cavaliers finished the tournament with a 338 team total followed by Waynesfield-Goshen (356), Upper Scioto Valley (358), Perry (362), Riverside (384) and Ridgemont (467).
Perry’s Logan Dray was the medalist with a 72 followed by USV’s Brady Hipsher with a 74. W-G’s Jaden Maxwell (85, sixth), Hyatt Kaufman (89, tie for seventh) and Kale Kaufman (90, ninth) finished in the top 10 individually. USV’s Cylan Thompson rounded out the top 10 with a 91. Lyndon Roof led Ridgemont with a 102 and Temple Christian’s Lincoln Watters shot a 96 playing as an individual.
