COLUMBUS — Coldwater collected its fourth girls state bowling title, winning the Division II championship Friday at Wayne Webb Columbus Bowl.
Coldwater swept the field, going 3-0 in each of the best of five matches against Jonathan Alder, Norton and Willard in the finals. The Cavaliers finished fourth overall with a 614 three-game series to earn first-team all-Ohio honors for the third time.
Lima Central Catholic’s Cecilia Riepenhoff finished 14th overall with a 561 series to earn honorable mention all-state selection.
Alley Hosier of Mechanicsburg had the high series with a 656, and Coldwater’s Brianna Wenning rolled a tournament-best 266 game. Wenning’s 266 occurred after she started the day with a 169 and then took a break. Coldwater’s Emily Fortener (556) tied for 16th, teammate Carlie Schoenherr (540) was 23rd and St. Marys’ Jaden Gibson (535) was 25th.
High school play continues at 3 p.m. Saturday at 20th Century Lanes with the Division I boys and girls districts.
Wapak and Celina will field both boys and girls teams. The Shawnee girls will also participate.
Lima Senior’s Morgan Twining and Elida’s Lauren Alexander will be competing as individuals.
