Roundup: Elida’s Gladen reaches state in high jump

AMHERST — Elida’s Jordan Gladen cleared 5-feet-1 to finish third in the high jump Wednesday at the Division I track and field regional and earn a spot at state.

The top four finishers in each event automatically advance to state. Competition is scheduled to continue Friday.

Division III regional

TROY — The Marion Local boys (28 points) and Minster girls (16 points) are in first place after the first day of the competition.

The Minster girls 3,200 relay team finished first with a time of 9 minutes, 29.03 seconds. Marion Local’s Ava Ranly won the high jump by clearing 5-5. St. Henry’s Ellie Fullenkamp (5-3), Minster’s Kayla Lamm (5-3) and New Knoxville’s Addi Albers (5-2) also qualified for state by finishing second through fourth respectively.

Marion Local’s Jack Knapke was second in the discus (169-1), Perry’s Kimari Glenn was third in the long jump (21-0) and Marion Local’s Kyle Otte was fourth (20-10). In the 3,200 relay, New Bremen was second (8:14.01) and Minster was third (8:14.41).

Competition is scheduled to resume Friday.

Softball

Parkway 2, Russia 1

CLAYTON — Brittyn Bruns knocked in A Nichols with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Bruns finished with three hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Meg Henkle allowed no earned runs, seven hits and three walks while strike out two in nine innings.

Paige Stephenson had a pair of hits and Adria Miller and Audrey Nichols each doubled also for Parkway.

The Panthers will play Covington, a 9-1 winner against Riverside, for the regional championship at 5 p.m. Friday at Northmont High School.

Division IV district

COLDWATER — St. Henry defeated New Bremen 8-3 and Marion Local topped Crestview 2-1 to advance to Friday’s 6 p.m. championship game.
