Roundup: Delphos St. John’s defeats No. 4 Crestview in boys basketball

DELPHOS — Cameron Elwer had 24 points for host St. John’s in its 48-43 boys high school basketball victory Saturday night against fourth-ranked Crestview.

Aaron Moenter finished with nine points also for DSJ (13-5). Mitch Temple had 14 points and Gavin Etzler scored 13 for Crestview (16-2).

The Polar Bears improve to 19-2 overall and 13-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while dropping the Comets to 12-9 (6-8 OAC).

Brynn Serbinled ONU with 21 points to go with five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Brooke Allen and Abby Dickson finished with 10 points each and Ottoville grad Kasey Knippen added nine points for Northern.

BEREA — Ada graduate Chase Sumner led No. 18 Ohio Northern to a third-place finish at the 36th annual Baldwin Wallace John Summa Invitational at Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

The Polar Bears (19-3 overall), who were resting several starters, finished with 174 points in the 10-team tournament. NCAA Division II West Liberty (W.Va.) won the team title with 381 points, and No. 4 Baldwin Wallace finished second with 359 points.

Ranked No. 10 nationally at 149 pounds, Sumner went 3-1 in the tournament with two wins by pin. He was defeated via a 4-0 decision by top-ranked Michael Petrella of Baldwin Wallace in the championship match. Sumner is now 32-3 on the season with a team-leading 16 pins.
