Six Wapakoneta players receive All-Ohio honors

Eleven area high school football players, including six from Wapakoneta, three from Celina and one each from Lima Senior and Elida, received recognition on the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association’s Division II and Division III all-state football teams, which were announced Wednesday.

Wapakoneta linebacker Connor Meckstroth was named to the first team All-Ohio in Division III. His teammate Jace Knous received second-team recognition and offensive lineman Tyler Houser and kicker Kyle Beach were on the third team. Mikey Lee and Grant Jolly received honorable mention.

Celina’s Landon Ackley, a defensive lineman, was named to the Division III second team. The Bulldogs’ Adam Faber and Caleb Gabes received honorable mention. Elida’s Tori Thomas was an honorable mention selection in Division III.

Lima Senior defensive lineman Anthony Mosley was honorable mention in Division II.

Akron Hoban’s Lamar Sperling was named the Division II Offensive Player of the Year. Jermaine Mathews, of Cincinnati Winton Woods, was the Defensive Player of the Year. Mathews has committed to Ohio State.Dave Bors of Painesville Riverside and Xenia’s Maurice Harden were the Coaches of the Year.

In Division III, Drew Novak of Western Brown was the Offensive Player of the Year and Andrew Marshall of Bloom-Carroll was the Defensive Player of the Year. George Yates of Columbus South was the Coach of the Year.
