Roundup: Bluffton, Allen East to play for tourney crown

BLUFFTON — Allen East and the host Pirates advanced Friday night to the championship game of the season opening Lewis Family McDonald’s Holiday Tournament at Bluffton High School.

The Mustangs defeated Cory-Rawson 63-46. Savana Brooks (22), Rilynn Jones (13) and Kennedy Truex (11) each scored in double digits for Allen East.

Bluffton defeated Arlington 59-43. Samantha Scoles and Ayla Grandey each had 15 points and Kendal Giesige (11) and Riley Eachus (10) also scored in double digits for the Pirates.

The tourney resumes at the same venue today with the consolation game at 2 p.m. followed by the championship encounter. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Kewpee Tip-Off Classic

BATH TOWNSHIP — The host Wildkittens and Bryan advanced to today’s championship game.

Bath defeated Versailles 50-41. Rachel Clark had 15 points and Elena Oliver scored 12 for the Wildkittens.

Bryan defeated Marion Local 46-33. Jenna Knapke led Marion Local with 19 points.

The consolation game between Versailles and Marion Local will be played at noon followed by the championship game at the same venue.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The University of Northwestern Ohios (14-3-4) and the Hastings College (16-1-2) battled through conditions that included a snow delay in the first round of the NAIA National Championship tournament.

WOOSTER — C.J. Napier had 22 points to lead the Ohio Northern men’s basketball team to a victory against Randolph (Va.) in the opening game of the Wooster Al Van Wie Classic at the Timken Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (2-1 overall) advance to Saturday’s championship game at 4:30 pm against Wooster, which topped Mount Aloysius (Pa.) 86-56.

Landen Long added 14 points and Ottoville graduate Will Miller chipped in 12 points for ONU.
