Roundup: Spencerville boys advance on penalty kicks

MILLER CITY — Spencerville outscored the host Wildcats 4-2 on penalty kicks for a 2-1 boys Division III soccer sectional final victory.

Spencerville’s AJ Boop, on an assist by Will Gallaspie, and Miller City’s Ethan Barlage had goals in regulation time. Gallaspie and teammates Brennan Lehman, Emerson Layman and Noah Stewart and Miller City’s Ethan Ellerbrock and Ethan Barlage had shootout goals.

Spencerville goalie Brennan Lehman had eight saves and Miller City’s Lane Pester had 13.

KALIDA — The Wildcats will play host to Spencerville in the Division III district semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Bluffton 4, Edison 1

BLUFFTON — Nolan Hoffman had two goals, Ben Hartzler and Eden Antrim each had a tally and Justin Good and Theo Andreas each contributed an assist for the Pirates, who will play Riverdale a 4-3 overtime winner against Liberty-Benton, in a D-III district semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tiffin.

Elida 4, Shawnee 2

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Analei Jackson had two goals and a save, Jojo Knight had a pair of tallies and Olivia Wallace had an assist for Elida, which moved on to play host to Liberty-Benton in a Division II district semifinal at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Tayma Jmiai and Adelay Stover each had a goal and Alexis Hammons and Ella Moritz each had an assist for Shawnee.

St. Marys 15, Van Wert 0

ST. MARYS — Aerial Fast had three goals and as many assists, Krista Ruppert had two goals, Kelly Holsinger had two goals and an assist, Riley Luedeke had two goals, Emma Freewalt had a goal and three assists, Morgan Hesse had a goal and an assist, Tagen Patterson and Ava Price each had a tally, Reese Rable and Liz Schloemer each had a goal and an assist, Sophia Menker had three assists and Reagan Allemeier and Jillian Tomberlin each had an assist as St. Marys will play in a D-II district semifinal against Bryan at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Elida.

COLUMBUS — Elida’s Carson Harmon finished tied for 24th with a two round total of 78-81 —159 at The Ohio State University par 71 Scarlet Course. St. Ignatius’ Nick Piesen was medalist with a 148 total.

Division I

FINDLAY — Shawnee’s Noah Williams qualified for regionals individually with a second-place finish behind race winner Nathan Cope from Toledo St. Francis.

Shawnee’s Carter Cleaves (11th) and Wapakoneta’s Axton Fosnaugh (13th) also advanced by finishing among the top 16.

Shawnee was fifth (150 total) with the top four teams advancing to regionals. St. Francis (35) was the team winner.

In the girls event, where the top 12 finishers advanced, Wapakoneta’s Mariel Augsburger was 15th. Wapak (130) was fifth in the team standings with the top three, led by team champ St. Ursula Academy (41), moving on to regionals.

Division II

FINDLAY — Shawnee (87) qualified for Saturday’s Tiffin regional with a fourth place finish behind team champ Lexington (34). The top five teams advanced. Molly Stump (fifth, 19 minutes, 8.36 seconds), Alaina Williams (seventh, 19:29.35) and Jenna Stump (17th, 20:38.13) each finished in the top 25 for Shawnee. Norwalk’s Xavia Immel (18:46.84) was the race winner.

Division III

FINDLAY — Hardin Northern’s Zeb Wilson (10th, 17:45.69) and Leipsic’s Jacob Walther (16th, 18:04.64) advanced to regionals with top 20 finishes. Leipsic (226) was 10th and Hardin Northern (240) was 12th behind team champ New Riegel (71). The top five boys team advanced.

Miller City’s Pfau Andrea (20:21.28) was fifth behind race winner Macie Miller (18:16.55) from Old Fort with the top 20 finishers advancing. Leipsic’s Lexi Reynolds (55th, 24:45.38) and Hardin Northern’s Jenna Legge (68th, 25:47.13) were the top finishers for their respective schools. No area schools posted team scores.

BLUFFTON — Kaylie Campbell had 13 kills, Maddie White had 22 assists, Courtney Weekley had three aces and Emma Organ had 23 digs for the host Beavers (15-8, 3-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) in the 21-25, 26-24, 25-14, 22-25, 15-8 loss.

Ohio Northern 1

NEW CONCORD — Ohio Northern fell 25-21, 25-15, 14-25, 25-21 at the Steele Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 15-7 overall and 5-2 in the OAC, while the Fighting Muskies improve to 15-6 (4-3 OAC).

Erin Wagner tallied 18 kills to lead ONU. Sonia Dahlin and Kaidie Carstensen added nine and eight kills, respectively.

Rachel Jennings (Novi, Mich.) finished with a team-high 25 digs for ONU and teammate Grace Conrad posted 45 assists.

Aquinas 3, UNOH 1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The University of Northwestern Ohio (11-16, 4-11 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) fell 25-18, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17. Anika Burke had eight kills, Casey Kingsland had 18 assists, Savanna Reed had three aces and Aubree Ricketts had 11 digs for the visiting Racers.

ADA — Ohio Northern scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears (10-1-4 overall, 5-0-2 OAC) have now won four straight as part of a nine-game unbeaten streak.

The Fighting Muskies fall to 2-11-3 overall and 0-7-0 in the OAC.

Alyssa Beckett had a pair of goals and Jill Roberts, Alexa Clampitt, Rileigh Glassburn and Kiera Kaeser added one each. Kylie Cabana had two assists and Jill Roberts, Emma Bowman, Hailey McGuire, Bath graduate Chandler Clark had one each. Becky Moss to the shutout in goal.

HANOVER — The Beavers fell to 4-10-1 overall and 3-5 in the HCAC.

NEW CONCORD — No. 21 Ohio Northern men’s soccer team won its fifth straight game.

The Polar Bears (11-2-3 overall, 6-0-1 OAC) extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games and remain atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings.

The Fighting Muskies fall to 2-12-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the OAC.

Sophomore Gavin Marshall led the way for Northern on Saturday with two goals.

The Polar Bears also got one goal each from Levi King, Ryan Augustine and Nate Gottron and Noah Zebrak .

Men’s swimming

ONU 218, Wilmington 65

ADA — Ohio Northern took first place in 14 of 16 events Friday night at the ONU Sports Center in its season opener.

Aiden Magoolaghan and Nathan Clark and Brady Horgan led the way for ONU with three victories each.

Magoolaghan won the 100-yard fly in 55.3 seconds and the 100-yard back in :56.67 and joined Horgan. Selby Wilt and Isaac Reddy in winning the 200-yard free relay in 1:27.13.

Horgan added that victory to his top finishes in the 100-yard free and the 200-yard medley relay.

He finished the 100-yard free in 48.06 and joined Shawnee graduate Charlie Spyker, Tyler Edmonds and Calob Cope in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.50.

All three of Clark’s victories came in individual events.

He won the 50-yard breast in 27.25, the 50-yard fly in 23.75 and the 100-yard IM in 55.97.

Women’s swimming

ONU 185, Wilmington 73

ADA — Ohio Northern won its opener Friday night at the ONU Sports Center.

Mara Brown and freshman Grace Smith led the way for ONU with three victories each.

Brown won the 50-yard back in 30.18 and the 100-yard IM in 1:04.98 and joined Abby Schauer, Morgan Fernandez and Annie Richters in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 2:02.29.

Smith won the 50-yard free in 25.81 and the 100-yard free in 57.72 and joined Richters, Sydney Selinsky and senior Gabbie Grant in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:47.48.
