Roundup: Bath’s Olivers win district doubles championship

PORT CLINTON — Bath’s Elena Oliver and and Anne Oliver won the doubles championship during Saturday’s Division II girls high school district at the VonThron-Hablitzel Tennis Center.

The Olivers defeated Lima Central Catholic’s Paige Brinkman and Claire Janowski 6-3, 6-1 in the final. They topped Bryan’s Caitlyn DeWitt and Reese Grothaus 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals. The LCC duo reached the title match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Port Clinton’s Reagan Ruthsatz and Grace Arnold.

Shawnee’s Alora Patel made the singles final with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Clyde’s Curtsin Hackenburg before falling 6-2, 6-1 to Ottawa Hills’ Catherine Rhegness in the championship match. LCC’s Libby Simmons topped Hackenburg 6-3, 6-0 in the third-place match after dropping a 6-0, 6-0 semifinal to Rhegness.

All those reaching the semifinals qualified for the state championships starting Friday at Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.

NWC Championship

COLUMBUS GROVE — The Lincolnview boys and girls won Northwest Conference team championships.

The Lancer boys (38) were followed by Columbus Grove (41), Bluffton (65), Spencerville (130), Crestview (131) and Leipsic (140).

Bluffton’s Landon Armstrong was the boys race winner with Lincolnview’s Conner Baldauf (third), Kreston Toe (fifth) and Evan Johns (sixth), Columbus Grove’s Trent Koch (second), Luke Ellerbrock (fourth) and Evan Pitts (ninth), Bluffton’s Sam Derstine (seventh) and Erik Nygaard (10th) and Spencerville’s Lanny Oakman (eighth) also finishing in the top 10.

The Lancer girls (31) were followed by Columbus Grove (39), Bluffton (69) and Crestview (101).

Lincolnview’s Brynleigh Moody won the girls race. Teammate Keira Breese was third behind Bluffton’s June Essinger. The Lancers’ Harper Reindel, Elyssa Renner and Kendall Hoffman were eighth through 10th respectively. Grove’s Lily Montgomery, Sarah Kamphaus and Lauren Martiz were fourth through sixth respectively. Crestview’s Anna Gardner finished seventh.

NWCC Meet

DOLA — Upper Scioto Valley’s Joe Parker and Waynesfield-Goshen’s Taylor Spencer won the Northwest Central Conference boys and girls races respectively.

Hardin Northern’s Zeb Wilson (third), Waynesfield-Goshen’s Damian Carter (sixth) and Brody Barrington (10th) and USV’s Noah McCoy (ninth) all finished in the top 10. Elgin (39) won the boys team title followed by USV (51), Waynesfield-Goshen (61) and Hardin Northern (64).

W-G’s Chloe Frey, Kyra Sutherland and Kennedy Bigelow were second through fourth respectively. Teammates Raegan Hutchison (sixth), Cassidy Bigelow (seventh) and Anna Brodman (10th) and Hardin Northern’s Jenna Legge (eighth) and Emma Martin (ninth) also finished in the top 10. Waynesfield-Goshen was the only school to post a team score.

MAC Championships

COLDWATER — The New Bremen boys and Minster girls won Midwest Athletic Confencer team titles.

The Cardinal boys (50) were followed by Marion Local (67), Minster (72), Versailles (100), Coldwater (132), Parkway (165), Fort Recovery (167), Delphos St. John’s (232), St. Henry (268) and New Knoxville (273).

Fort Recovery’s Trevor Heitkamp was the boys race winner with New Bremen’s Zach Wiedeman, Minster’s Ryan Halpin and Jack Grieshop, Marion Local’s Noah Budde and Troy Stucke, New Bremen’s Patrick Bernhold, Coldwater’s Mason Ayers and Josh Schoen and New Bremen’s Dominic Shroyer finished second through 10th respectively.

The Wildcat girls (22) were followed by Fort Recovery (72), Versailles (91), New Bremen (109), Parkway (111), St. Henry (141), Delphos St. John’s (199), Coldwater (241) and Marion Local (259).

Minster’s Margaret Hemmelgarn won the girls race with teammates Taylor Roth (third), Maria Niekamp (fifth), Annie Hemmelgarn (sixth), Chaney Cedarleaf (seventh), Ava Stammen (eighth) and Morgan Ketner (ninth) also finshing in the top 10. Fort Recovery’s Natalie Brunswick was second and New Bremen’s Caroline Whitlatch was 10th.

TRAC Championships

OREGON — Eliezer Bermudez Rivera (25 minutes, 20.2 seconds) was 47th to lead the Lima Senior boys (245), who were eighth behind team champ Toledo St. Francis (17), led by race winner Ethan Cope (16:15.5).

Hailey Hahn (24:52.4), who was 36th, was the top Lima Senior finisher in the girls race. Whitmer’s Lily Good (20:16.5) was the race winner with Notre Dame Academy (29) winning the team title. Lima Senior did not post a team score.

Volleyball

Russia 3, Crestview 2

RUSSIA — The Knights fell 18-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21, 15-8. Ellie Kline had four aces and 28 digs, Cali Gregory had three aces, 38 assists and four blocks, Laci McCoy had 16 kills, Haley McCoy had four blocks, Myia Etzler had 13 kills and three blocks, Adelyn Figley had 13 kills and 21 digs for Crestview.

Allen East 3, Kenton 0

HARROD — The Mustangs won 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.

Kenzie Koontz had seven kills, Savana Brooks had seven kills and three aces, Soraya Jackson had 12 kills, Elle Richardson had three aces and Hannah Williams had 30 assists for Allen East.

Morgan Lyons had nine assists, Riley Totten had five digs. Sadie Larrabee had five kills and 11 blocks and Brynn Butler had 11 digs for Kenton.

The Indians won 25-7, 25-10, 25-12.

Kelly Cooper had 12 kills, Kyra Vermillion had 11 kills, Grace Freiberger had 33 digs and three aces and Addie Marxell had 45 assists for Shawnee.

Miller City 1

MIDDLE POINT — The Lancers won 25-23, 25-16, 24-26, 25-23. Morgan Verhoff had 15 digs and three blocks, Savanna Niese had 10 kills and 12 digs, Cloe Kuhlman had eight kills, Josie Otto had 18 digs, 31 assists and three blocks and Libby Erford had 11 digs and four aces for Miller City.

Preston Mansfield and Kellen Schlagbaum each had three goals and Quinton Schnipke and Alex Leis each had a single tally.

Collin Scheid, Matteo Fusillo, Noah Scheid and Austin Rosebeck each had a goal, Alex McGuire had a pair of assists, Luca Fusillo contributed an assist and Jack Tenwalde made two saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Kira Dirksen and Kemarra Burns each had a goal.

Ella Moritz had two goals and teammate Cameron Ridenour had a single tally. Kamryn Morris, Chloe Nance and Addison Neth each had an assist also for the Indians.
