Roundup: Miller reaches milestone in Shawnee soccer win

Austin Miller became Shawnee’s all-time goal scorer with 79 for his career in the Indians’ 5-1 boys high school soccer victory Saturday against Cincinnati Mariemont.

Miller, who passed Jake Miller on the all-time goals list, had four tallies on the day. Luca Fusillo had a goal, Alex McGuire had two assists and Noah Scheid and Matteo Fusillo each had an assist also for Shawnee.

Jaden Smith, Drew Frisch, Dawson Schultz and Evan Stechschulte each had a goal and Brady Fersch make five saves to secure the shutout in goal.

SIDNEY — New Knoxville (142) and Lima Senior (179) finished fifth and sixth respectively behind team champ Sidney (29) in the boys event. Eliezer Bermudez Rivera (23 minutes, 14.8 seconds) was 48th and Malachi Ley (24:41.3) was 52nd for Lima Senior behind race winner Noah Burgh (17:13.7) from Piqua.. Noah Holland (20:00.0) was 22nd and Kaleb Putman (20:15.4) was 23rd for New Knoxville.

New Knoxville’s Ariyah Pfenning (20:41.7) was second and teammate Sannah Chede (22:17.6) was fifth behind girls race winner Emily Fleming (20:05.1) from Sidney.

Molly McKiney (29:30.8) was 30th and Elana Cox (30:41.4) and Angela Uzquiano-Zabala (30:58.9) were 34th and 35th respectively for Lima Senior. Neither Lima Senior or New Knoxville had enough runners to post team scores.

VERSAILLES — Botkins swept the boys (54) and girls (43) team titles.

Marion Local (78) finished second and St. Marys (152) was fourth in the boys competition. Fort Recovery’s Trevor Heitkamp was second behind race winner Kellen Reichert from Jackson Center. Marion Local’s Troy Stucke (fourth) and Noah Budde (eighth) and St. Marys’ Calvin Morris (fifth) and Tyler Birt (sixth) had top 10 finishes.

Fort Recovery (66) was second and St. Marys (118) was fourth in the girls event. Fort Recovery’s Natalie Brunswick (fourth) and Jenna Hart (eighth) and St. Marys’ Lauren Schloemer (seventh) finished among the top 10 behind race winner Alaina Mann fro Botkins.

MINSTER — Coldwater won the team title with a 377 at par 72 Arrowhead. Medalist Jordan Hemmelgarn (85), Natalie Ashbaugh (89), Kennedy Voskuhl (98) and Brooke Harlamert (105) combined for the winning total. Hemmelgarn earned player of the year honors and was joined on the all-conference first team by Ashbaugh.

Minster (381) was second followed by Versailles (387), Parkway (414), New Bremen (431), St. Henry (440), Marion Local (453), Delphos St. John’s (469) and Fort Recovery (473).

New Bremen’s Abbie Burden (88), Minster’s Katie Heitkamp (90), Elle Gable (97) from Delphos St. John’s, Parkway’s Madison Louth (97), St. Henry’s Courtney Rockwell (104), Marion Local’s Kaitlyn Otte (107) and Fort Recovery’s Ella Westgerdes (114) had the low rounds for their respective schools.

Also making the all-conference first team were Versailles’ Ella Porter and Emma Garrison, Burden, Heitkamp, Minster’s Ashley Meyer and Ashlyn Homan, Gable and Louth. Coldwater’s Timothy Brunet is the coach of the year.

CELINA — Delphos St. John’s (320) won the tournament title at par 72 Celina Lynx and secured the overall conference championship. Minster (323) was second followed by Coldwater (340), Versailles (343), Fort Recovery (354), Marion Local (358), St. Henry (367), Parkway (397), New Bremen (454) and New Knoxville (489).

DSJ’s Jack Gerker and Minster’s Nathan Beair each shot 75 to share medalist honors. Collin Feathers (76), Tyce McClain (79) and Caden Wright (90) also contributed to the Blue Jays’ winning total.

Marion Local’s Marcus Rethman (79), St. Henry’s Josh Rindler (80), Parkway’s Roman Leszinske (83), Fort Recovery’s Isaac LeFevre (85), Coldwater’s Keegan Bruggeman (83), New Knoxville’s Jay Waterman (93) and New Bremen’s Bruce Voress (109) had the low rounds for their respective schools.

Gerker earned player of the year honors with Feathers, Leszinske, Rindler, Rethman, Beair, McClain, Bruggeman, Minster’s Jack Meyer, Mitchell Bornhorst and Louis Magoto and LeFevre also landing on the all-conference first team. DSJ’s Aaron Dubow is the coach of the year.
