Roundup: Van Wert records shutout for 3-0 start

VAN WERT — Aidan Pratt completed 14 of 22 pass attempts for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Van Wert improved to 3-0 on the season with a 36-0 Friday night Western Buckeye League victory against Defiance.

Pratt also rushed 14 times for 90 yards. Brylen Parker had two touchdown runs, Garett Gunter and Conner Campbell had TD catches and Maddix Crutchfield returned a kickoff 88 yards for another score.

CELINA — Zander Jones had two touchdown runs and teammate Landen Ackley also rushed for a TD. Chase scored Shawnee’s TD on a run and Tyler Kimmet had a 33-yard field goal.

PANDORA — Ethan Luginbill rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns for the hosts. Teammate Carson Meyer three TD passes to Aidan Morris, who finished with four receptions for 112 yards, and Colin Harris. Quin Schroeder rushed 11 times for 107 yards and a TD and had touchdwon throw to Jacob Scheckelhoff and Mike Jimenez. Hayden Hiegel had 114 yards on 23 carries and Estevan Carrillo finished with six receptions for 89 yards also for the Vikings.

Kenton 20, Bath 6

BATH TOWNSHIP — Tim Wilkinson caught a TD pass from Korbin Johnston, finshing with six catches for 127 yards and Tim Wilkinson had 93 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Johnston also ran for a TD. Jacob Lepley converted field goals of 22 and 21 yards for Bath.

FORT RECOVERY — Marcel Blasingame completed nine of 11 pass attempts for 195 yards and a pair of TD throws, one to Braylen Harlamert, who had five catches for 120 yards, and the other to Curtis Duerr. Blasingame also had two touchdown runs.

CONVOY — Carson Hunter and Bryson Penix each had a TD run and Isaac Kline rushed for 89 yards on 22 carries for Crestview.

BLUFFTON — Bluffton’s Garret Bogart had a TD run and connected with Braeden Jordan for a TD. Teammate Landen Worcester had a touchdown run.

MINSTER — Kyle Otte had caught two of Tate Hess’ three touchdown passes and ran for another TD. Drew Hause had a touchdown reception and Darren Meier rushed for a touchdown.

ROCKFORD — David Homan had two TD runs and returned a punt 75 yards for another score. Aaron Thieman ran for TD and returned an interception for another score. Eddie Nichols scored Parkway’s TD on a run.

COLUMBUS GROVE — Brenton Renner connected with Shep Halker on a 35 yard pass for the game’s lone touchdown. Teammate Zach Reynolds had four catches for 80 yards.

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Jamarion Byrd and Elijah Caudill each had a touchdown for Perry. Jefferson’s scoring information was not reported.

KALIDA — The Big Green won 25-19, 25-16, 25-13. Kara Burgei had eight aces, Erica Thorbahn had 20 asssists, Elisa Kramer had 15 kills and Alivia Hilvers contributed six digs for Ottoville. Malia Romes had nine kills, Maria Gerding finished with 18 assists and 15 digs, Maddy Unverferth had 11 digs and Riley Neinberg had three aces for Kalida.

Ashton Searfoss’ goal off an assist by Talon Heuerman gave the Wildcats their first win against the Pirates since 2012. Lane Pester made seven saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Shawnee’s last goal of the first half of its 7-0 victory against Bath was on a penalty kick by Coda Miller, who also was taken down in the box. The incorrect player was indentified in Friday’s story in The Lima News.

Findlay ranked

No. 2 in nation

Findlay — The University of Findlay women’s golf team, coming off of the program’s first-ever national championship in the spring of this year, is ranked second in the country in the Mizuno Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason Poll which was released Friday.

Area players on the roster include St. Marys graduate Jill Schmitmeyer and Lima Central Catholic graduates Erin Mulcahy and Mary Kelly Mulcahy.

The ranking is the highest preseason ranking in program history and comes following a historic, undefeated run to the 2022 Division II National Championship. Findlay, which lost just one athlete from its’ lineup last season, is ranked behind Dallas Baptist University which won the national title in 2021.
