The state football championships are staying in Columbus for an additional year.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association and Greater Columbus Sports Commission announced Tuesday morning that Ohio Stadium would host the championships through 2016. The original two-year contract had Ohio Stadium as the host for 2014 and 2015.

The intention was to move the championships back to Stark County, which hosted for 24 years (1990-2013), in 2016. But renovations in Canton at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Staidum, formerly Fawcett Stadium, are not expected to be complete until 2017.

Beyond 2016, details are being discussed as to which venues will host the state football championships.

The 2015 championships are set for Dec. 3-5 at Ohio Stadium. All-session tickets will go on sale Aug. 17. Single-session tickets will go on sale in November.
