Michigan State takes back offer to Cupp

Staff reports

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Leipsic offensive tackle Gavin Cupp will be reopening his recruitment after Michigan State withdrew its scholarship offer following his attendance at Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights recruiting night last Friday.

Cupp verbally committed to the Spartans in May, saying he liked the Spartans’ program because it was “very family oriented.”

The 6-foot, 6-inch, 275-pound senior said he had offers from Minnesota, Missouri, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Virginia, Illinois and several other schools at the time he committed to Michigan State. He had not received an offer from Ohio State and did not get one after Friday Night Lights.

After taking back its offer to Cupp, Michigan State reportedly offered his spot in its recruiting class to Olentangy Liberty offensive lineman A.J. Arcuri.
