ORLANDO — Zion Jackson of the Lima Striders Track Club finished first in the boys 10-year-old 60 meter dash at the AAU National Club Championships held this past week. Jackson finished with a time of 11.25.
He also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 10 inches, which put him 1 1/2 inches from the winning distance. Jackson was also second in the triathlon (400 meter dash, high jump and shot put).
Teammate Jeff Williams III was seventh (long jump, shot put and 55 meter dash) in the triathlon for boys age 6. The Striders’ Jae’ Anna Hughes was sixth in the pentathlon (100 meter hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump and 800 meter run) for 13-year-old girls.
All three Lima residents earned All-American recognition for their efforts as well as spots in the AAU Jr. Olympics to be held in Norfolk, Virginia, starting Aug. 2.
LIMA — The Lima Area Tennis Association championships mixed doubles quarterfinals and semifinals were held Saturday.
Reaching the finals were Jeff Brown and Andrea Arango who will play John and Liz Kidd today. In the combined age 70 round robin, Kassie Hill and Brian Duffy won both their matches.
The event is scheduled to resume at 10 a.m. today at the University of Northwestern Ohio. In the case of inclement weather, matches will be moved to Westwood Tennis & Fitness Center.
