An 8U, 10U and 12U boys baseball tournament will be held July 31-Aug. 2 during the Ballpark Festival. There is a $175 entry fee for 8U and $200 fee for 10U and 12U along with three baseballs. The Putnam County YMCA is currently registering youth flag football league participants. This is a recreational program designed for youngsters new to the sport of football as well as those not quite ready for tackle football. Participants will learn how to play the sport, brush up on the rules, tactics, and skills, improve their game and have fun. This flag football league is open to those ages 5-11 years old. Fee, which includes team shirt and end of the season award, is $21 for members and $41 for non-members. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. A league is forming for the sport which combines soccer and golf with competition being held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays until July 23 for those ages 5 to 15 years old. Entry blanks are available at area golf courses for the Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament, scheduled July 22-26.
The tournament is open to all women residing in Allen County and all adjacent counties. There will be an open flight, a championship flight, a senior flight (55 and over) and a new junior flight for players who will be in high school during the 2015-16 school year.

The tournament will begin with two qualifying rounds at Lost Creek Golf Club on July 22 and 23. Match play will begin at the Bluffton Golf Club on July 24. The semifinals will be at Colonial Golfers Club on July 25 and the finals will be at the Shawnee Country Club on July 26.
Golf For Kids Sake scramble
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Putnam County is hosting its fourth annual Golf for Kids’ Sake four-person scramble has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. July 26 at Pike Run Golf Club, Ottawa. Money raised stays in Putnam County. Teams get golf, two carts, range balls, goody bag, two drink tickets and two meals for $60 per person, with lunch by Arby’s and supper by Schnipke Inn. The Ladies Dr. Pepper Scramble will be held Monday, Aug. 3, and Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Colonial Golfers Club. Ottawa Chamber 9th annual golf outing
The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its golf outing Friday, Aug. 15, at County Acres Golf Club, with 11:30 a.m. lunch and at 12:15 p.m. start. Only 30 teams are available, with teams accepted on a first-come, first served basis. Call the chamber at 419-523-3141 for details.
A new running series is coming this summer. Three area festivals have partnered, along with St. Rita’s Health Partners, to create the “Putnam County Running Series”.
The Ottawa Ribfest “Join the P.A.R.T.Y. 5K “, the Glandorf Park Festival “Turtle Trot 5K”, and the Kalida Pioneer Days “Friday night 4 miler” will make up the newly established series.
Those who participate in all three races you will receive a 1/4 zip jacket.
The first race was the Ottawa Ribfest Join the P.A.R.T.Y. 5K held July 18th. The second race is the Glandorf Turtle Trot 5K to be held Sept. 5 and the final race will be the Kalida Pioneer Days Friday Night 4 miler on Sept. 11. Awards will be given for those participating in all three races at the conclusion of the final race in Kalida on Sept.11.

The inaugural Dance Through Downtown 5K Run will be held at 9 a.m, Saturday, July 25. Starting in front of Pointe of Joy (116 N. West St.) and ending in Lima’s Town Square, this event with feature stops at least every kilometer, staffed by dancers and instructors from local studios who will teach participants an 8-count of the National Dance Day official dance. At the end of the run, everyone will gather in Town Square and perform the complete dance together! Race organizers will award a trophy to the studio with the most participation (identify studio on the sign-up form). Plans are under way for a 5K Glow Run at Pandora Missionary Church at 9:40 p.m. July 25. The theme of this year’s race is, “Light Up the Dark,” and will feature various glow aspects along the course, including luminaries, glow attire, and illuminated Bible verses.
Proceeds raised from this event will be donated to Pandora/Bluffton area Youth for Christ and Guiding Light Teen Maternity Home in Lima.
This is considered a “fun run”— so the race will not be timed and all ages are welcome to participate. However, it should be noted that wheeled “vehicles” are not permitted on the course. This includes, but is not limited to: strollers, wheelchairs, skates/skateboards, scooters, etc. Participants will be eligible for door prizes that will be awarded prior to and after the race. The Lima Family YMCA/Kewpee Triathlon/Duathlon will be held at 8 a.m. Aug. 2 at Ottawa Metro Park, east of Lima on State Route 81.
