Locos win 3rd straight, move into first in GLCL

XENIA — The Lima Locos are enjoying the sunshine these days.

The Locos won their third in a row with a 6-1 victory over Xenia Sunday at the AIA Sports Complex.

The Locos (15-6) are 8-1 over their last nine games and have moved into first place by percentage points over Hamilton in the Great Lakes Collegiate League.

The Locos finished the year with a 3-1 record against Xenia (14-12).

The Locos will play Grand Lake at 7 p.m. tonight at Simmons Field.

The game was tied at 1 until the Locos scored four in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. Brett Murray (Creighton) had the bit hit, a three-run home run.

Murray went 1 for 4 with a home run and three RBI. Mitch Carriger (Maryville) and Will Kilgore (Georgia State) both went 3 for 5. Grant Williams (Kennesaw State) went 2 for 5.

Travis Edgar (Butler CC) started for the Locos and earned the win. He went four innings and gave up one run, earned, on three hits. He walked two.

Colin Gossard (Findlay/Bath HS) came on next and tossed four shutout innings, giving up three hits. He struck out three.

Cole Gordon (Mississippi State) closed it out with one shutout, no-hit inning.

The Locos knocked out 13 hits. It was the fifth straight game the Locos had at least 10 hits. Xenia had six hits.
