Our elected leaders say they were “astonished” by the events of Jan. 6 at the Capitol.
I would like to point out that for the last 50 years, a good portion of our elected leaders have in one way or another become partly to blame for the attitude of the demonstrators.
I say that for several reasons:
Their acceptance of campaign contributions from the wealthy and corporations who wish to maximize profits by abolishing pensions, cutting health-care benefits and hiding behind right-to-work laws. They have no boundaries when it comes to doing about anything to increase profits, even it means lowering the standard of living for the majority of the public.
If these lawmakers are looking for someone to blame, I suggest they look in the mirror.
