Letter: ‘The Tortoise and the Hare’

With the 2020 presidential election we have witnessed the modern version of Aesop’s Fable: “The Tortoise and the Hare.”

We have watched President Trump scamper from state to state in Air Force One, putting on a big show before adoring thousands, throwing out red MEGA hats, and saying over and over how he has done more in 47 months than Joe Biden did in 47! Observing the smirk on his face and the odd color of his $50,000 hair job, reminds me of Carly Simon’s song: “You’re so vain, betcha think this song is about you doncha, doncha.” Just like the Hare, Trump was confident Joe Biden didn’t have a chance of becoming president.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden occasionally comes out of his man-cave in Delaware, making sure his mask is on, waving while the television camera’s are rolling, giving a salute and returning to his safe place at home. All this makes the two campaigns as different as night and day and the candidates are the exact opposites in temperament, with Trump spewing out false claims about everything and “Sleepy Joe,” as Trump refers to his opponent, just biding his time, waiting for the final run, suddenly like a “come to Jesus moment” Biden perks up, looks presidential, chooses a woman for running mate and makes a dash toward the finish line with a smile on his face.

Poor Trump! Tired and disgraced from his hectic campaign slumps down in the White House and tweets, fraud, stop the count. The Democrats cheat! We all await his fate in the next four years.
