Letter: Neutral teaching too much to ask?

America’s election systems have operated smoothly for more than 200 years because the Electoral College accomplishes its intended purposes. The Founding Fathers created a stable, well-planned, and carefully designed system of checks and balances — and it works.

Sadly, the egotism of Professor Gabel, of The Ohio State University, errantly thinks he knows better and that is typical. Recently released research conducted by the National Association of Scholars’ (NAS) shows that nearly 40 percent of the colleges surveyed did not have even one professor on their faculty who identified as Republican, while 87% of professors among elite universities describe themselves as liberal – confirming that liberal indoctrination in classroom politics is no myth.

It is an unscrupulous act for professors to take advantage of student immaturity by indoctrinating pupils with their personal opinions before the students have developed the maturity and skill to examine other opinions. According to a number of Pew Research Center surveys, most Americans identify as conservative. These Americans are seeing their tax dollars and tuition dollars going to people who have contempt for their values and seek to indoctrinate their children with leftist ideas.

My own and my children’s college educational experiences confirm this. Neutral teaching that, given the facts, allows students to make their own conclusions is the true essence of education – not force-feeding them heated liberal rants or attacking one’s political party with personal opinions rather than facts. Beware OSU students! History has shown that socialism is not compatible with a civilized culture, no matter how fantastic your professor makes it sound.
