Letter: Hunting part of circle of life

Anyone who reads my letters knows that I’m a serious advocate for animal rights. With that said, I believe that hunters often get a bad reputation. They do more to benefit the circle of life than most people realize.

For example, much of the money that is paid for hunting and fishing licenses goes towards conservation. Beyond that, managed hunting can help deer populations in our country. In states where cougar and wolf populations have been eliminated, deer populations have skyrocketed to the point where the population has grown too big for the food supply in the range, eventually leading to many deer dying from starvation.

Managed deer hunting can prevent this issue from happening. Additionally, many hunters and fishermen actually eat their catch, much like how predators do. In short, managed hunting and fishing can actually help keep the circle of life in balance.
