As much as I like my electric company, I am deeply concerned about AEP’s recent tree-trimming escapades.
I live on Brice Avenue. When I was a kid (in the 60’s), there were 2 big trees in almost every tree lawn all down this beautiful street. They were old (these big homes were built in the early 1900’s), and many died and were replaced in that era and are now themselves huge. I don’t ever recall the power company or city trimming the trees to such an extent, and I certainly don’t recall frequent power outages.
AEP has been trimming trees in this neighborhood for several days. Most of the trees now look like something out of a Halloween horror movie. I’m certain that many won’t survive. I’m equally as certain that now that the tree’s center of balance has been severely changed (some of these look like giant “Y“‘s with 10-20 feet missing in the center), they will be more prone to falling on homes, cars and in the streets than before.
Why doesn’t AEP use arborists to advise them instead of chainsaw-happy crews? Drive down the 700, 800, 900 blocks of Brice, or Wayne to see what I’m talking about.
