Thursday was a sad day for Lima-Allen County.
A well-liked and once respected man was sentenced in federal court to more than 11 years in federal prison. There is no doubt that former Sheriff Sam Crish did wrong. He owned up to it and apologized. At one time Sam and I were great friends — I still consider him my friend.
I felt a lot of sorrow for Sam when the judge said 11-plus years. Personally, I would have liked for the judge to suspend Sam’s sentence and give him a three-year time period to repay everyone he got money from. If he didn’t pay, then impose the sentence.
Sam is a good man who made some foolish mistakes. We all do.
