Thank you for the article in The Lima News on Monday, “Teens shooting at cops? No time for silence.”
I grew up in the south end of Lima, went to South Junior High and Lima Senior. It was violent in the 70’s and 80’s and the violence has continued to escalate in my mind because the citizens of the community remain silent, almost complicit, or worse, they make excuses for the behavior.
Police officers sometimes behave badly, but for the most part are people trying to do a noble job. The judicial system also fails from time to time, but the real problem is the commission of crimes and the acceptance of those who commit the crimes. Lima has potential, but it will never be reached so long as citizens, ministers and leaders continue to make excuses for lawlessness on the part of citizens!
