Letter: Smart meters: ‘No way, Jose’

Brussels, Belgium recently made world news by poking their finger in telecom’s eyes. They would not allow 5G. Also, a Florida headline read, “Mar-A-Lago Exempt From 5G, Everyone Else Gets Fried”.

But that is just the latest installment of communities turning against the technology. New Mexico has put the ‘kibosh’ to any and all smart meters. Ten counties in California have said, “No way, Jose.” Portland, Oregon has forced their utility to removal of 70,000 smart meters. Ontario has banned smart meters in apartments. In addition, cities in the State of Maine and British Columbia have passed resolutions calling for a moratorium on Smart Meters. Little-by-little the public is wising up.

Furthermore, the following communities have some form of opt-out: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Guam, British Columbia, and Quebec. The sad part is, there is an opt-out fee, which is very wrong.

As they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” But, we’re working on it.
