Letter: Words used by the leader of the free world do matter

It seems every day brings another chapter in what not to do as the leader of the free world.

Since the current White House occupant has never had to answer to anyone until our country decided to place him in his current position, it looks like no one has ever sat the president down and explained that words matter. And that words from the president hold more influence than anyone else.

When the person holding the highest office in the land makes derogatory comments about people who have held, or are holding high positions in our military and other institutions of our democracy, this kind of thoughtless diarrhea of the mouth has repercussions around the world.

When the president degrades and belittles the institutions of our democracy, people around the world who have looked to our country as a “shining city on a hill” start to think that the light it dimming.

When the people that still support the president, in spite of these asinine comments, don’t start to question the fitness of the president to still hold the job, they’re the ones carrying the water that’s dousing the light.
