Here is the message repeated over and over again at almost every one of Donald Trump’s campaign rallies: Trump to the adoring crowd: “I’m going to build a wall, and who’s going to pay for it?”
The adoring crowd shouts back in unison, “Mexico, Mexico, Mexico!”
Trump acknowledges the crowd and confidently assures them, “That’s right, Mexico is going to pay for the wall!”
Two years later, one has to wonder: Why is the government shut down? Also, why is Trump trying to negotiate a wall with the Democrats; shouldn’t he be talking to the Mexicans? The promise never was about Congress footing the bill or the American taxpayer.
Whose was going to pay for it? “Mexico, Mexico, Mexico!”
