Letter: Vote to keep Shawnee Schools strong

My name is Avery Shirk and I am writing in support of the upcoming Shawnee Local School District levies.

I graduated from Shawnee High School in 2017 and due to my educational experience at Shawnee I have continued on to pursue my degree in Early Childhood Education at Miami University. My exceptional experience at Shawnee inspired me to become a teacher. My teachers consistently pushed me to be the best I could be and undoubtedly have played a role in shaping the person I have become.

When I came to Miami University, I knew that college would be challenging and a lot of work. Before I came to Miami, I was extremely nervous. I knew that I was competing amongst top-notch students, many of whom had graduated from prestigious schools across the country.

The farther I dig into my studies at Miami, the more I realize what an excellent job Shawnee Schools have done in preparing me for my next step. I am able to keep up in my studies, and am able to compete with my peers. My accomplishments would not be possible without the education I received at Shawnee.

I believe in the Shawnee school system. I believe that Shawnee produces exemplary people. I believe that Shawnee prepares students to continue their education in whatever they choose. I am extremely thankful that I was able to receive such an excellent education. My hope is that Shawnee students, like my sister, have the same opportunities I did. I strongly encourage the Shawnee community to continue the excellence and vote for the school levies on Tuesday.
