Letter: Encore’s ‘Steel Magnolias’ is a hilarious tearjerker

The cast and crew at Encore Theater have topped themselves with their latest offering, “Steel Magnolias.” The show is a heartfelt non-stop laugh riot, and I am not ashamed to say it brought tears to my eyes, my cheeks and my beard. The acting in this show is so powerful that you should be given a complimentary box of tissues when handed your program.

For those who do not know the story, do yourself a favor and go experience a show that defines what superb acting is. For those that love the movie, fear not, all of the great parts that you love are here and are played out by a stellar cast that brings you right in to the heart of the story and allows you to take the hilarious, emotional journey of getting to know them, and getting to know what matters most to them, each other.

I cannot remember the last time I was so emotionally caught up in a show. And there is no doubt about it; it is how the dialogue is delivered that grabs you by the heart and does not let you go until the final bow. Hats off to director Joe Warnement and everyone involved. Let it be known that the ladies at Truvy’s Beauty Shop do not let doing good hair get in the way of putting on an outstanding performance.

The show runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Sept. 14th through the 23rd. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 pm. Sunday shows are at 2 pm.
