Letter: Encore’s ‘Music Man’ steals your heart

Encore Theater continues to bring top-notch talent and entertainment to Lima with its latest offering, Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man.” Being one of the greatest musicals of all time, to begin with, it was a true joy to get to hear the orchestra perform it so beautifully and see such a talented group of actors take the timeless favorite and make it their own.

The fun the cast was having with the show was obvious and made the performances and experience that much richer and entertaining. The witty writing comes across tenfold with the facial expressions and timing the actors have bolstered their performances with and the show moves along at a rapid pace as the story unfolds and the laughs abound. (Good, clean humor is instrumental to the show.)

Regular attendees of Encore will recognize a lot of faces (fan favorites), and there are a number of actors new to Encore as well. Even Director Chris Garlock gets in on the fun as the mayor of River City, Mr. Shinn. Now folks might try to tell you that there is trouble in River City, but I have seen the show, and I can tell you that it is entertaining, which starts with “e” and ends with “g” and is quite cool.

The show runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Sunday. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 pm., and the Sunday show is at 2 p.m.
