Letter: Program in its sixth year

Mercy Health - St. Rita’s Medical Center recognizes the benefit of ensuring patients receive medications prior to leaving the hospital. I read with interest a recent column by Lima Memorial in which this program was discussed and wanted to share that St. Rita’s has offered a Meds-to-Beds delivery service for patients being discharged from the medical center for more than six years.

Meds-to-Beds service involves the St. Rita’s pharmacy staff working with the doctors and healthcare teams to ensure our patients have access to and are able to afford their medications. Any barriers — such as prescriptions not covered by insurance or requiring prior authorization — are resolved prior to discharge.

Mercy Health - St. Rita’s wants to make sure patients get the care they deserve while at the medical center, but we also want to make it easier to heal upon returning home. The Meds-to-Beds service allows us to make the patient’s transition from hospital to home as comfortable as possible.

St. Rita’s Outpatient Pharmacy is a full-service retail pharmacy which serves patients, hospital employees, as well as the community. In addition to the Meds-to-Beds delivery program, the outpatient pharmacy also provides the following services:

• Patient assistance and support for persons unable to afford their medications

• Naloxone kits at no cost to any person wanting to be prepared to assist someone in the event of an opioid overdose

• Immunizations including shingles, pneumococcal, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis, HPV, and the flu vaccine

• Bariatric nutrition

• Medication compounding

• Unit dose packaging

The Mercy Health St. Rita’s Outpatient Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be reached at 419-995-4949.
