Letter: Encore’s “Spamalot” offers knights of entertainment

I saw the Broadway touring company show of “Spamalot” years ago, and I didn’t think it could be outdone. I was proven wrong upon seeing Encore Theater’s rendition of the show. In speaking to members of the audience, many had seen the show performed over the years, some numerous times, and they all agreed that it was the best version that they had seen as well.

The show is a hilarious telling of King Arthur and his quest to assemble his Knights of the Round Table and fulfill a task handed down by God Herself to find the Holy Grail. What is great about this show is that it tells what all of the knights went on to do with their lives, something the movie did not do.

With fantastic lighting, stage design, direction, choreography, acting and even humor from the pit orchestra, Encore takes audience members to many locales as they follow the knights as a group as well as in their individual attempts to find the Grail, and along the way, themselves.

My son said to me after seeing the show: “I know you love Monty Python and I really like the movie, but this show is better than the movie.” Now that is an endorsement! Thank you Encore for bringing this hilarious show to Lima!

The show runs Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
