While many in Lima complain there is nothing to do, I want to take some time out to thank a few people who are trying to change that:
• A shoutout to my Fight Like A Redhead family and Matt Fish. The numerous events and programs going on include acting workshops, a Mom to Mom sale on Aug. 5 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and a summer basketball program. On August 12th, we have our annual Euchre tournament at the VFW Post 1275. Last year we donated over $600 to a foundation for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the name of a local vet who took his life due to PTSD. This year’s FLARH Has Your Six will be celebrating local veteran Calin Huggins and his father, Craig Huggins posthumously. In September, we will be having a golf outing in the name of Brandon Schindler. FLARH can be found on Facebook and if you are interested in any of the events.
• Brian “BK” Irons is bringing his comedy friends to Lima for a second year of Big Trouble In Little Lima II. He is now getting ready for a third Big trouble in January. He is such an amazing talent and even though I couldn’t make it to the show, I have heard nothing but good reviews of him and the acts he brought in. Brian is also hosting the Adult Prom this year.
• Daryl Upshaw has the 2nd Annual Adult Prom Aug. 5th at the Civic Center. He has promoted several events at the UAW Hall on Bellefontaine Avenue. He also operates the Destiny Party Bus company for all your parties to safely transport.
Finally, I want to shout out Fresh N Faded and LeAndre Johnson for always stepping forward and helping in the community by sponsoring canned food drives and fundraisers for local needs.
