Longtime columnist Dan Thomasson dies

Tribune News Service is sad to announce that columnist Dan K. Thomasson has died. Thomasson, a former vice president of Scripps Howard Newspapers, had been a longtime News Service columnist whose opinions were often shared by The Lima News on these pages.

Thomasson had a distinguished career in journalism. He became chief congressional correspondent for Scripps Howard in 1966 and managing editor of Scripps Howard News Service in 1976. In 1980, he became editor of Scripps Howard News Service and chief of the 50-person Washington bureau. He was named vice president for news of Scripps Howard newspapers in 1986. Thomasson provided commentary on a variety of national television shows, including “Face the Nation,” “Good Morning America,” the “Today” show, “Washington Week in Review” and on C-SPAN.
