Letter: Ohio delegation can work together to leave the rancor behind

Let’s make Wednesday’s Inauguration Day a turning point, to retake the future of Ohio and of the nation and leave the violence and incivility behind.

If today’s Mr. Republican, soon-to-be Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, can turn a new leaf, we all can.

Why and how? For the same reasons that Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman are united in calling for multiemployer pension reforms to help Ohio’s workers and retirees. For the same reasons that everyone in Ohio’s congressional delegation is motivated to do more for constituents who are hurting, scared, sick, jobless or just worried about the future and their children’s educations.

We need to turn down the volume on political disputes, and raise it on political solutions. In this way, Ohio can become the swing state again — a leading practitioner of pragmatic cooperation.

Let’s start today.
