Mark Figley: Cross your heart and hope to die Joe?

A government leaker concludes that Donald Trump improperly urged Ukraine’s president to investigate Joe Biden and his son. The former vice president accuses Trump of attempting to “smear” him. The Trump/Ukraine transcript shows nothing irregular, yet impeachment-crazed Democrats march on. Meanwhile, the mainstream media continues to push a narrative designed to conceal details of the Biden self-enrichment scheme which makes him damaged goods moving toward 2020.

Interestingly, it was “Sleepy” Joe Biden, a swamp-dweller since his election to the U.S. Senate from Delaware in 1972, who said of his time as vice-president, “For eight years there wasn’t the hint of a scandal.”

Cross your heart and hope to die Joe?

Just ask investigative journalist Peter Schweizer, author of “Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends,” which alleges that the Democrat presidential front-runner used his position as VP to shape U.S. policy with China and Ukraine to secure billions of dollars for his son, Hunter Biden.

In his book, Schweizer writes that then-VP Biden and Hunter flew to China aboard Air Force Two in 2013. Less than two weeks later, Hunter’s private equity firm agreed to a $1 billion deal in which he became co-owner of a subsidiary of the Bank of China with the Beijing government. The deal would later rise to $1.5 billion. Was this coincidence?

Notably, Schweizer says that Hunter then made a series of multi-billion dollar deals with companies owned by the Chinese government through his investment firm, Rosemont Seneca Partners (RSP), which he co-founded in 2009 with Devin Archer and Chris Heinz, the step-son of former Secretary of State John Kerry.

One such deal created an investment fund called Bohai Harvest RST (BHR). In December, 2014, BHR became an anchor investor in China’s General Nuclear Power Corp. (CGN) which built nuclear reactors. In one instance, BHR partnered with a subsidiary of China’s government-owned military aviation contractor AVIC to purchase Henniges, a U.S. manufacturer of military technology.

Then in April, 2016, the Justice Department charged CGN with the theft of nuclear secrets from the U.S. which threatened “significant damage to our national security.” CGN reportedly was interested in sensitive American-made components used on our nuclear submarines. More recently, China developed a phone application to spy on its oppressed Muslim Uyghur population using facial recognition software created by a Chinese company called Face Plus Plus. FPP just happens to be a division of Meg V., in which Hunter Biden is also heavily invested.

Then there’s the matter of the Ukraine. According to Schweizer, on April 16, 2014, Hunter’s business partner, Devin Archer, visited VP Biden at the White House. Five days later, Biden flew to Kiev for high-level talks with Ukrainian officials and brought news of financial assistance and loans to assist its natural-gas industry. Soon thereafter, the U.S. and International Monetary Fund would pump over $1 billion into Ukraine.

The next day, Archer joined the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian natural-gas company. Hunter Biden would come aboard too, though neither had knowledge in the energy field. The NY Times reported Burisma paid Hunter as much as $50,000 a month leading up to a corruption investigation undertaken by the Ukrainian government and foreign officials.

Joe Biden returned to Kiev in March, 2016 with a threat to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid if Ukraine failed to dismiss its top prosecutor, Victor Shokin, who was leading the investigation of Burisma’s owner. The Times also reported that Biden helped recruit a U.S. consulting firm to assist Burisma. Shokin was ultimately replaced and the case against Burisma was dismissed in late 2016. The VP later bragged about his efforts.

Despite this trail of troubling evidence against the Bidens, no investigation has ever been undertaken. Far less evidence existed to investigate whether Donald Trump colluded with Russia. Yet the sweet sound of crickets chirping has been the only thing heard as Biden, the human gaffe machine, campaigns across the country. Now Trump has stirred the pot.

Perhaps the mainstream media has been too overwhelmed by the diminishing list of brainiac Democrats with plans to save the republic to look into an obvious scandal. Though maybe if we wait long enough, in the name of self-interest, one of them might sell Joe out not because he’s sleepy; just plain sleezy.
