Roses and Thorns

The roses are popping up like crazy this week while keeping the thorns at bay.

Rose: To Phil Osmon, who recently retired from Hofeller, Hiatt & Clark in downtown Lima after 55 years there. He worked his way up through the business over the years and helped thousands of men dress their best over the years.

Rose: To Troy Elwer, the new promotions and operations manager of the Allen County Fair. We’re excited to see what he can do to bring more and better events to our shared jewel, the Allen County Fairgrounds.

Thorn: To Ronald Collins, charged with two counts of retaliation for a Facebook video that law enforcement officials believed was a threat of violence against Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Terri Kohlrieser. When will people learn it’s never a good idea to verbalize your threats against a judge on social media?

Rose: To Veterans Memorial Civic Center, for the variety on its 2022-23 schedule released Tuesday. With everything from Amy Grant to Mannheim Steamroller to Little River Band to a Disney Junior live tour, there’s something for nearly everyone on that list. The Broadway series also looks top-notch, with crowd-pleasers like Anastasia, My Fair Lady and Hairspray, along with variety, such as the Simon and Garfunkel Story.
