Roses and Thorns

The rose garden is loaded with people on the various sides of the law this week.

Thorn: John Charles Coy pleaded guilty in federal court to the receipt and/or distribution of child pornography.

Rose: Zachary and Jacob Mortimer, identical twins who followed their grandfather’s footsteps into law enforcement, Jacob for the Lima Police Department and Zachary for the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.

Thorn: To a federal appeals court considering allowing a juror bias claim in the case of Jeronique Cunningham. The family of the two girls deserves some peace, not more arguments on this case.

Rose: William Romes and Tom Kerr, founders of Eighth Order in Kalida. Their patriotic clothing line uses portions from used military apparel.

Thorn: Delphos Jefferson High School Principal Chad Brinkman, Intervention Specialist Karissa Hoersten and Education Administrative Specialist Maureen Rentz. All three were suspended and charged with misdemeanor charges of child endangerment. According to an Ohio Department of Health report, a disabled child spent 90% of the day in isolation.

Thorn: Ethan Moore, who will spend seven to 10 1/2 years in prison for drugging an infant he was babysitting.
