Letter: Anti-abortion crusade wrong

HB 408 bans all abortions at anytime during a pregnancy, and also turns citizens against each other by offering a $10,000 bounty to people who turn in their neighbors who may have assisted a pregnant woman with obtaining an abortion. Where one could get this abortion if this bill passes is a mystery. Certainly, it won’t be in Ohio. The Texas bill is not as restrictive as OH HB408

Extremists on the right want to control women’s health and there are no exceptions for rape, incest or health of the mother. Ohio, should be renamed Gilead. Women will be no more than incubators in Ohio after passage. Health care costs are out of control, if it survives, there will be numerous health issues for the rest of its life. And who is going to pay for that?

A fully developed heart does not form until around 20 weeks. Hastening the removal of a mass of cells is not killing a child. If that mass of cells could survive on its own out of the host, I might be more supportive but currently it cannot. That sound on the fetal monitor is not a beating heart, it is the electrical stimulation in cells that will eventually form the heart. We have developed tools that can hear sounds that do not indicate a formed organ.

So calling that sound a heartbeat at 6 weeks is misleading.
