Mark Figley: No secret why Democrat Party turns many off

By Mark Figley - Guest Columnist

In the fall of 1962, Ronald Reagan spoke at a Democrats for Nixon event during which he was interrupted and asked if he had changed his party registration from Democrat to Republican. After he responded no, down through the audience came a female registrar who placed a registration card before him. Then and there, Ronald Reagan officially joined the Republican Party. The rest, as they say, is history.

As our political climate has become increasingly coarse, the modern Democrat Party looks nothing like the one which once supported the “common man.” It has turned its back on regular Americans through the support of tax and spend policies and an agenda hostile to liberty and freedom.

The all-caring Democrats also seek to keep those in poverty poor. Why else would they demonize an administration which has overseen the addition of 7 million jobs, the lowest unemployment numbers in 50 years, historic increases in median household income and 2.4 million Americans lifted from poverty? Having no solutions of their own, Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “squad” call the president a racist and claim his policies benefit only the rich and should be subject to a wealth tax. Yet millionaire candidates such as Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren lack the moral character to admit their own success.

Democrats are further obsessed with sexism, although serial abusers Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein hobnobbed with Democrats far and wide while lavishing them with untold financial contributions. And in the age of “Me Too,” while many inside the Democrat Party were well aware of this hypocrisy and accepted it, unproven allegations of misogyny are reserved for a president who threatens business as usual.

One’s stance on abortion has also become a litmus test for holding federal office as a Democrat. Jimmy Carter remains the party’s last presidential nominee to express actual reservations about abortion. Where Bill Clinton once said, “Abortion should be safe, legal and rare,” those across the party now support it on demand. In addition, only four “pro-life” Democrats currently hold seats in Congress. And according to a recent Pew Research poll, 82% of Democrats favor legal abortion in all or most cases.

In the case of religion, the Democrat Party denigrates those who put stock in Christianity. At a recent national prayer breakfast, Nancy Pelosi could not even bring herself to utter the word “Christian.” And despite still being the majority religion in America, Christian beliefs are deemed offensive while those of other religions are freely acknowledged. The Democrat Party shows utter contempt for traditional religious interpretations and favors prosecuting those who would live out their beliefs in denying specific services to those who would violate them. To statist Democrats, Christianity is outdated and reserved for those too closed-minded to consider the concept that government is the true religion; all knowing and powerful enough to fulfill any desire or need imaginable. Meanwhile, persecuted Muslims, like Ilhan Omar, are granted a religious exception to spew anti-Semitic rhetoric at their choosing.

The modern Democrat party also promotes the LGBTQ agenda at every turn. While most Americans wish no ill-will toward those whose lifestyles increasingly thrive on outrageousness, they realize that the goals of the radical LGBTQ community threaten many of the Judeo-Christian principles that made America great, undercut family values and promote such lifestyles through the public schools. For this, Democrats label such Americans as hate-filled homophobes, while LGBTQ militancy grows.

As a result, once proud Democrats are leaving a party they once loved behind. Unrecognizable is a party filled with foolhardy solutions which never work, blaming its failures on its foes, and leading not through inspiration, but intimidation. Its opposition is insensitive, ignorant and bigoted. Meanwhile, the Democrat apparatus is the self-proclaimed moral compass of society, whose mental prowess extends to determining what ideas are worthy of promoting and what speech should be spoken.

Today’s Democrat Party is foreign to success, opposed to tradition, and intent on creating chaos as far as the eye can see. And although Ronald Reagan could see the inherent danger in following such a party, not even he could have imagined just how far off the rails it would truly go.
