Letter: Say ‘thank you’ to letter carriers

The National Association of Letter Carriers’(NALC) 25th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive was May 13. The letter csrriers, United Way of Greater Lima, and the West Ohio Food Bank teamed up for this event. Letter carriers did extra duty that day delivering our mail and collecting over 15,000 pounds of food. As the mail trucks arrived at the post office filled with food items, the letter csrriers expressed how they were happy to be involved in making a difference.

According to Feeding America, there are over 17,000 people in our county that are food insecure. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is held the second weekend in May to help food banks and pantries handle the increase in people needing food during the summer months when children are out of school.

Thank you to the letter csrriers, West Ohio Food Bank and all the citizens that donated food items. We are grateful for the letter csrriers for caring about people in our community and making sure our citizens have adequate food. Letter carriers provide a valuable service in our community as the watchdogs of neighborhoods. They see everyday where and when there may be a person in need.

It was a joy working with the letter csrriers. The next time you see your letter carrier say thank you! It takes all of us in our community working together to make life better. When we LIVE UNITED we all win!

Carol Braden-Clarke, President, United Way of Greater Lima
