Letter: Memories of setting party politics aside

The Lima News’ Reminisce article about Malcolm and Beverly McCoy brought back memories. Beverly and I served on the Allen County Council on Aging Board for a number of years. She, being a little left of center politically speaking, and myself, being a little right, would talk politics before the meetings and razz and egg each other on, but it was always in good fun.

A few years ago, I was standing in line to vote at the Senior Citizens Center, and in walks Beverly. I caught her eye and walked over to her, and we gave each other a warm embrace. I told her that we should just go back to our homes and not vote, since we were probably going to cancel out each other’s vote. We just laughed as we always did at the Council on Aging Board meetings.

I wish our state and federal legislators could do what Beverly and I did. We had our little differences but saw the value of each person pushing our egos out of the way.
