Column Lori Borgman’s “Not so fast, Frosty” was in the paper on Aug. 21. She starts off with, “Christmas is only five months away” and ends with “Don’t rush me.” Most of her columns are funny and heartwarming. This one, I thought, not as much.
But it brought back thoughts of my childhood, when the live tree went up a week before Christmas in my grandparents’ living room, and the beautiful silver foil tree with rotating color wheel went up two weeks before Christmas upstairs, where Mom and I lived.
Christmas has always been a time of beauty, joy and celebration. It commemorates the greatest gift ever given: a gift to all the generations, for every day, that lasts through eternity, for those who choose to believe. So He is Worth. And we are blessed to be free to celebrate however long we want to, including not at all.
Some people don’t have much time left on Earth, and they know it. I went to a Christmas-themed funeral on Sept. 7. If the retailers (many of whom are struggling) and the designers make a buck off Christmas in July, more power to them. We can always use more love. It’s Christmas!
