Metzger memorial undergoes redesign

LIMA — An Elida High School senior is redesigning the William E. Metzger Jr. memorial.

Jon Frueh Jr. has been tasked with the redesign as part of an Eagle Scout project. His design will be in the shape of a three-blade propeller, featuring images of 2nd Lt. Metzger and his Medal of Honor citation. The new design will also incorporate the bronze tablet from the original memorial, which was dedicated in 1956 and later refurbished in 1993.

The finished memorial will be move 200 yards east of the original on Reservoir Road.

The Allen County Museum will hold a dedication ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 9 — 75 years to the day William Metzger Jr. died — in the parking lot at the northeast corner of Metzger Lake Reservoir on Reservoir Road.
