Essay contest announced for Auglaize County students

WAPAKONETA — To help mark the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s trip to the moon, Wapakonenta’s Celebration Committee is holding an essay contest, with the top prizes as rides in a hot air balloon.

The contest is limited to Auglaize County students.

They will be asked to submit an essay on why a ride in a hot air balloon would be inspiring to them.

Those students in the first through sixth grades will be asked to write up to 75 words, while those in the seventh through 12th grades have up to 150 words to make their case.

With your entry, include your name and address; your school and the grade you’re now in; and the name of your parent or guardian with his/her phone number and email address. Each student may submit only one entry.

Mail your entry to John Zwez, Balloon Rally Chair, c/o Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 208, Wapakoneta, Ohio 45895, postmarked no later than June 1. The best entries (and two alternates) will be selected, and the winners will be announced by June 22.
