A Doll’s House comes to the Ohio State Lima stage

The Ohio State University at Lima Department of Theatre presents Henrik Ibsen’s 1879 classic Norwegian drama A Doll’s House in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts. A Doll’s House is adapted by Frank McGuinness.

A Doll’s House is considered an early feminist drama and examines the traditional roles of women and men in society and the weight those roles can inflict. The Lima production sets A Doll’s House in the late 1950s United States.

“A Doll’s House is about husbands and wives, mothers and fathers. Although the central character of Nora takes much of our focus, each character in the play is in some way suffering from ‘the sins of our fathers’ – from a patriarchal society that equates happiness with wealth, that has placed the burden of power on men, and has taken it almost completely away from women,” said Director Margie Anich, lecturer in theatre. “Women had very little say in how society was structured. No one is ‘whole’ or complete as they are in such a world, but most do not challenge the status quo. Nora does, and that makes her a heroine for the ages.”

Public performances are planned for 7:30 p.m., Thur., Feb. 28, 2019; 7:30 p.m., Fri., March 1, 2019; 7:30 p.m., Sat., March 2, 2019; and 2 p.m., Sun., March 3, 2019. Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the door for cash and check. Because of the intimate nature of the staging of Lima’s A Doll’s House, seating is limited. Late-seating will be limited to obstructed views.
